nopearce 03-30-2008, 07:39 AM Last night my breast started leaking. Is this because my hormones are out of wack? I really don't think I'm pregnant, so what is going on? I am really nervous. mkgbrook 03-30-2008, 01:07 PM My breast's leak too! It wasn't my prolactin levels.. they never knew or figured out why. My breast's still leak but not as bad since my thyroid and adrenal insufficiency has been diagnosed and treatment has begun. I will keep an eye on this, because I am really curious. Sincerely, MG upperlimits 03-30-2008, 03:28 PM I have this problem as well, my OB Dr. told me that this is from Thyroid problems. My prolactin levels are always normal. I have had this leaking problem for almost a year, no Dr. seems to concerned. I have not been DX with Adrenal problems. My Dr. told me that i would have to be VERY VERY sick and in the hospital to have adrenal problems! So i have not found a Dr. to look into this. They would rather go for MS or Lupus or MG ect rather than look into adrenal problems. Good Dr's that will listen and work with you are hard to find these days!! i keep trying to find them. good luck ANg rumpled 03-30-2008, 05:58 PM This thread makes me want to cry. Really cry. Prolactin can be raised by medications, hypothyroid or a prolactinoma. I have to tell you that I had barely abnormal prolactin readings and was fully lactating out of both breasts, was told that was impossible (yes, the lab tests are correct and my body, yes, my body is totally wrong - bad bad body) so I was given medication to dry me up. Eventually my prolactin went back to normal. Now, they found a 5-6mm pituitary tumor at this time but everyone assured me that they were absolutely sure that there was no way in the world I could ever have a prolactinoma. Fast forward 12 years, and when I had pituitary surgery, they found two pituitary tumors, and one was a prolactinoma. That happened to be the tumor that hid from imaging for 12 years. The one they saw was the Cushing's one - oh I could not have that either. But I did. All I can say is... endocrine issues do tend to happen in bunches as the system - despite what the friggen doctors think (or don't think is more like it) is all hooked together. So they should be checking all your hormones carefully, not just a few, and doing it correctly. ANg - As for having to be in the hospital for an adrenal problem - your doc is plain ignorant - at that point you are then near death. The whole point is to find it before you are at that point. True, the symptoms are very non-specific (fatigue, weight loss etc) but that whole attitude smacks of stupid. You are correct, they do not have a clue. They prefer to give out steroids and suppress the adrenals but have no clue what to do if one has an issue. nopearce 03-30-2008, 07:12 PM I am calling my endo tomorrow about my leaking breasts. This is what my doctors have told me so far: My endo says I have adrenal insufficiency (cortisol level at 8:00 a.m. was 1.4). My cardio doctor just received my results from my heart monitor, and he doesn't know why my heart races sometimes up to the 140s when all I do is sit and walk around the house or in the yard. He says they checked my thyroids, which are fine. I had an MRI of my pituitary, which is also fine. I never did a scan of my adrenals. I take tons of meds and vitamins and still have no energy. Any walking makes me dizzy and my heart race. mkgbrook 03-30-2008, 08:39 PM Have they check for Hashimoto's.. it smacks normal.. then lays you flat. the antibodies have been known to attack the heart.. mine did, your adrenal's.. mine did.. because I was a hypochondriac. I was 27 and pregnant when I began complaining. They wouldn't even check my TSH. Even when my liver and kidney's began to fail. I just grew a baby that was too big for me and couldn't handle its toxins! Well it took 4.5 years to get diagnosed and I had to move to a different state to get competant care. And then i had to go through a few MDs.. 5 or 6 MDs found a good ENT, Dermatologist, Allergy/Immunologist, 2 good IMs, a good Neuro, a good OB, A good MFM, a good Neuro-Opthamologist. It takes time and research. Get word of mouth referrals and call and talk to the nurses. Do your own research and call and see what the MD practices. It takes a long time or a lot of LUCK to find the ONE for you. Sincerely, MG rumpled 03-31-2008, 09:28 AM Yes, agree that hashimotos is a bear. Note too that imagining can be normal and it can be wrong. I had twp pit tumors when imaging only showed one and my adrenal scans showed normal (both CT and MRI) when those puppies were huge and one was even nodular. It was only taking them out that proved conclusively to many that i had pituitary based Cushing's as, weird as it may seem, most did not want to accept my pituitary pathology as it did not have a solid adenoma tissue but ACTH secreting corticotroph hyperplasia - since that is rare they decided it was not Cushing's! Amazing, huh. mkgbrook 03-31-2008, 11:04 AM :D Yes. I have a few MDs screaming MS with only oligomeric banding as a possible indicator of it. However I have every symmtpom and indicator of Hashimoto's Encephalopathy which generates the smae banding and more, but that is too rare. At least i have a Neuro and neuro-opthamologist that are geetting all the facts and believe me. I am going to ask my Neuro about the pituitary issue. I will also tell him about the leaking.. I ment to three visits back.. but I keep forgetting about it. I will right it down and put it in my health file so I remember to tell him of it. My issue is the leaking is not continuous. It fluxes.. it is worse when I am hypoT. I barely leak now I am hyperT. I hate having to do all the leg work for the MDs. I wish I could just not think about it and let the professionals figure it out.. but I might be a mental idiot by that time. Sincerely, MG upperlimits 03-31-2008, 02:49 PM MG, Had a question. Do the Dr's think it is MS? This is what all my dr's are saying to me! I konw you from thyroid boards. I have Hashi's on meds since dec. I most recently having blurry vision and some double vision, headaches now with this vision. I still have muscle weakness like my legs and arms are weighted down and i can not walk well almost a duck walk when my legs get tired, usually about 10 min. I never thought of Hashi's encephalopitis! what are the symptoms of that??? |
