I'm really concerned because, I have had unprotected sex with someone whom I later found out has in the past have risky sexual behavior. I got tested last week for HIV and awaiting the results. I had sex with him initially about 3 months ago. I have asked him to get tested and he keeps putting it off. What is a good way that I can approach him about getting tested again because, I really want to know his HIV status since from the literature I read it could take 3-6 months from exposure to contract HIV

Hello Caribsista.

You do not need to know his HIV status. Of course, it is better for him to get tested, but do not waste your time trying to convince him. Your problem here is anxiety, and trying to have him tested is not going to help you.

Moreover, if you had a test 3 months past exposure, the result will be definitive. You do not need to retest again 3 months later: what you have read was probably old documents.

Therefore, even if you manage to get him tested, you will have your own results before him.

Hope this helps. Good luck and please write again.
