I'm starting Loestrin 24 fe in about two weeks. However, my gyno didn't tell me how long it takes for it to actually prevent pregnancy if my boyfriend and I were to do it without a condom. This will be my first time taking any kind of pill. I read the packet that came with the pills and it only talked about back up birth control after you've missed pills. Anyone have any idea of the amount of time it takes to be effective? Thank you!:)

I think it takes 1 week, depending on when you start your pills (ie at the start of your period or at the end of your period). I would use back up for 2 weeks to be on the safe side.

Just a clarification, you have to start the pill either on the first day of your period or the Sunday after your period starts. If you start it any other time during your cycle, you're going to be back here sometime soon complaining about weird bleeding or spotting that is not during your regularly scheduled period.

Yeah, I heard that, but my gyno told me to take it the second day of bleeding.
