I had vitrectomy and lensectomy which remove my natural lense. The vitrectomy sugery is to fix a Macular hole which unfortunately did not close. So there a HOLE in my central vision. So my vision acuity is poor. The lensectomy is due to cartract and the natural lense is removed but my Retina Specialist did not implant a lense in it. He think since the macular hole is not closed and the eye could not see clear with lense. So my vision are fussy. One eye doctor I know think that I should have lense implant to keep the eye structure intact. Is there there any one had lensectomy without a lense implanted ? Should I ask my eye doctor to implant a lense ?

I can't comment on preserving the structure of the eye with an implant, but I have central blind spots. It depends on how large your blind area is. If you have considerable peripheral vision, I think it would be worthwhile to have a lens implanted. Furthermore, years down the road who knows what kind of surgery/treatment will be available. As the second doc says, the eye structure might be in better shape if that time comes.

FYI I tried high toric contact lens which improve my vision from 20/400 to 20/100. My poor vision is also due to Macular hole is not fixed. But I am very happy with 20/100 vision.
