I got my first Depo injection at the very end of January. I was on my period at the time, which ending up stopping almost immediately after getting the shot. However, in about mid-February I began a very light period or spotting if you will, but it has been continuous, it is now April, and has not stopped.

Also, my partner and I chose to ignore the spotting and have sex, I really didn't think it would be anything to worry about, but the next morning I began to bleed even worse, it was bright red and it was definitely more bleeding then I was having previously, and to add, it seems as though tissues or uterine lining is coming with it. :(

Now, I know this subject is not at all pleasant but I am very concerned and I would appreciate any insight offered to me.

Thank you.:)

When I was in high school (8 years ago now, yikes!) Depo was super popular among the girls because it meant that you were covered against pregnacy for three whole months, and you didn't get your period on top of it.

I never personally got the depo shot because I'm terrified of needles and would never subject myself to one unless it was a life or death situation (or a vaccination, of course), but my best friend did. It was horrible! Instead of not getting her period the three months, she started spotting within the first couple weeks, then ended up bleeding more heavily, like a real period, continously for three whole months.

When she went back to the Dr., he explained that this can happen and does happen more often in younger women and teens.

Sounds to me like this could be what's happening to you...probably best to talk to your Dr. ;)

I am currently on the depo shot. I started taking it in June 2006. I had a very light period for about 2 months. Since then I have not had a period. It's going on two years since I have been on it. I have gained weight, but I don't think it has anything to do with the shot. I eat too much and don't get enough exercise. My boyfriend and I ignored the light bleeding also, but everything is ok with me. Everybody has different reactions to the shot. My sister bleeds non stop on the shot. She has to take BC pills and the shot BOTH. Maybe you might have to do the same. It has something to do with the estrogen levels in your body. That's something you should to ask your doc about.

You NEED to go see a Gyno for your other problem. That could be something serious! I hope everything is OK.

Good Luck! It gets better.

These tissues that you are talking about might be clots of blood. It is normal and a lot of people get them. However, since you are on depo you may wan to go to your gyno just in case, since depo has lead to many different problems.

hey, about depo, just google depo provera horror stories, you will see that manymany women have had adverse reactions to depo. I was on depo for 4 yrs and did not associate any of the health problems with depo until I stopped it in april 2007. I am still really messed up from this shot and would not reccomend it to anybody. Yes many react differently ,but after you get that 1st injection there is no way to turn back. I still have bleeding problems january i bled 27 out of 31 days. It is all related to the depo.. If you ever want to have kids in the future you should never get this shot either. Many women complain of infertility after using this . The sad thing is this shot is used especially with teenaged girls that have no idea of what is can do.Reasearch everything before you start,I Only wish I had done that before taking this shot.

My aunt was on the depo shot for ten years and got pregnant within 6 months and has 2 little girls. It really depends on your body. Every med has adverse reactions.

I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one with this problem! I am 34 and the depo shot was recommended to me by a friend who's been on it 9 years and had no side effects or period at all. I was assuming a 3 month shot would decrease my chances of getting pregnant simply because the human error factor would be taken out of the equation, unlike the Pill.

My doctor agreed to give it to me during my annual exam in October. I also was on my period at the time and was told because of this it would be effective immediately and I would not have to use a back-up method of birth control. I was advised that breakthrough bleeding could occur at any time during the first 6 months, however it would not be heavy or resemble a normal period at all. Within 2 weeks I began bleeding again, only slightly at first. But after another month it became as heavy as a normal period every single day. Not only was this terribly annoying and frustrating, but it was also accompanied by the symptoms of a period. I had constant cramping, bloating, tenderness, and headaches. I also constantly felt like I was on the verge of a bladder infection.

After Christmas I called my doctor to let her know what was happening and she immediately scheduled me for an appointment. It turned out I was anemic from the loss of blood and needed iron supplements. I was also given a pregnancy test and told the extreme side effects could have been an indicator that the shot was ineffective and left me unprotected. Fortunately, the test was negative.

I am currently on the NuvaRing, but I did continue to bleed for a while after starting this method until the depo cleared my system. I would advise you see a doctor immediately and not attempt to continue with the shot hoping the bleeding will cease. You may be experiencing serious adverse reactions which could be jeopardizing your health. As far as the tissue you are seeing, I would think only a doctor could make that determination. But don't wait... you should get this cleared up now. And, I hope you can find another method that will work well for you.

I personally love Depo. It's worked great for me, and I swear I've tried almost every birth control out there. I have Fibroids, and it has kept that pain free for me. BC pills weren't great for me. I had some weird spotting with an IUD, and the NuvaRing landed me in the ER with the most bleeding/pain ever.

But, as women, I think we are very unlucky having to deal with all this. Hormones are so indivudal. And, unfortunately, I feel like we have to use our own bodies as guinea pigs until we find the right thing for us. Good luck on your quest!

I took Depo for almost two years and hated it. I gained 55 pounds in 9 months, had terrible mood swings and spotted on a daily basis. Everyday I woke up pissed off at the world. My personality changed so drastically that my boyfriend dumped me. Once single I got off the depo and lost all the weight within 3 months. It took almost 6 months before I had a normal period but once I got off depo I returned to my natural happy self. I ended up back with my boyfriend and he's forbidden me to ever take depo again. Its been six years and I couldn't be happier!
