A family member contracted Hep- from eating at a dirty restaurant back in the early 70's. She ate lots of liver and recovery was faster than normal she stayed in the hospital for several days. Men should not eat too much of it too much iron. Anyway now because she was put on lipitor a year ago - she got an x-ray of the liver which showed small lesions. Is this normal for one who has had Hep. What should the liver enzymes range be when someone has had Hep?

Has milk thistle helped anyone in this forum?

Hey Heythere,

What your friend got was Hepatitis A. Hepatitis A is contracted by eating foods prepared by dirty hands and/or surfaces. Hope her doctor mentioned that she can be innoculated for that in the future.

Hep B, I'm not sure---hope someone else is more knowledgable on that subject and answers.

HepC is blood only. Wished I could post a website for you but moderator says No-No. Look around the web for the Liver Foundation and other sites.....they can give you specific scenerios how you can and can not contract HepC.

Don't know about the liver thing, not an expert. I do know that when you have HEPC, you should not eat large amounts of iron.

She can go to her doctor and ask for SPECIFIC tests for HepA, HepB, and HepC. It's not normal blood work so doc has to specifically check for it. X-Rays will not be accurate, we can vouch for that. Hubby had a liver ultra-sound years ago and was misdiagnosed, once again and it was slid under the rug. It gives an idea but further work up must be done.

Not sure what the norm enzymes should be. Hope someone else here is more knowledgable in the "blood work" portion of things.

I've heard nothing but good things about Milk Thistle. I think if taken properly it can't do any harm. You know....."I says to take 2 but if I take 10, it will work even better."
When we talked to our doctor about it last year he neither said it was good or bad. It's that holistic approach that western doctors won't promote.

Hope this helps a little,

hi there,heythere http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
regarding milk thistle!i take a liv-tone cap 2x's daily and have been for a year.i have my results faxed over to me from the lab,as i keep them on file.in my oppinion i find it to be of great help.it's not a cure by no means but i feel that it is sorta like (protects the liver from toxins),before i started taking the liv-tone (bought at the health store)my enzymes were up at 125 (alt),since taking the liv-tone daily my last months(alt)was 9 outside n/r and i've had this 20+ years.consume your 8 glasses of water, the greener the veg.the better.the key thing is maintaining a proper diet, exersize etc.i hope that this is of some help to you.
keep the faith, bless you...........mj
