View Full Version : Pharmacy gave wrong medicine!

I have HCV and have been taking the peg/rebetol combo for 6 months now. For the past 3 years I've been taking Tramadol (Ultram) for pain from surgeries I've had in the past. Anyway, I went to the pharmacy about 2 weeks ago to pick up a refill of the Tramadol and have since had what I thought were simply increased peg/reb side effects. It turns out that instead of Tramadol they gave me Trazodone. I understand that this is an anti-depressant. I took this for 2 weeks straight and am now very worried that I may have "undone" whatever progress I've made. Can anyone provide any information as to whether there are any contraindications that I should be aware of?

I can answer your question but if it were me I'd sure call the doctor and ask. Then I'd call the pharmacy and get some answers.

I know I probably don't have to tell you now but ALWAYS check your perscriptions. I've had the pharmacy, nurse and doctor give out wrong medications in the past. I almost had a nurse give me something for pain while in the hospital that I was allergic too...something from above told me to check what she had in her hand...good thing I did. NOW I always check.

It also helps not to skip around pharmacies. Hubbys pharmacy noticed that on the perscrip the doctor changed the dose----NO, he didn't he just didn't know it DID NOT come in 400mg size. Hubby would have been taking double the dose---I would have noticed upon picking it up BUT glad the pharmacy is on top of things.

Hope things get better once you take the right meds.

hi JHL
i agree with DD you should get in touch with your doc,i've heard about anti-depressants during treatment but cannot elaborate much about it (sorry).i take estrogen from a prior surgery in /90, my est mg's are 1.25. i went to pick up my perscription, i never thought at the time to check it. but by the time i got into the car,i then did.they had given me triple the dosage(wow), i went back in and straighten the matter out.it is very important to check your perscription!but i guess you learned from your experiance. i know i did.also it has been 2 weeks i can only speculate that there was no seriouse harm done.take care
keep the faith, bless you............mj

Yea I'll know next time for sure. My question is whether anyone out there is familiar with this medication (Trazodone) and in particular how the liver responds to this. I took the medicine daily for at least 2 weeks. I'm hearing "...yea there shouldnt be any problems..." from the doctor's office but the side effects for me included among other things pain in the liver area that disappeared 2 days after I stopped taking the medication.

Any information is appreciated.
