I will be having one eye done in 3 weeks and I am nervous. I have what seems like 50-75 floaters in my eyes so I will be having a floaterectomy on each eye. Has anyone had this before? I will be getting the single focus lens btw.

I too expect to undergo a vitrectomy operation in the near future and I'm not gleeful about it either. However, in talking to friends that have already had the op, it seems that it is nowhere near as dramatic as it sounds.
Get a bit of dust or an eyelash in your eye and the pain is excruciating so I guess that's why we're nervous about surgery there.
Looking up vitrectomy operations on the Internet, tells me that the success rate is very high indeed.

I hope the fact that I don't actually have anything wrong with my eye, other than blepharitis, will help my chances. I just want to get rid of what seems to be 70 or so floaters which are ruining my life :/.

I had vitrectomy and lensectomy. It is a day surgery and there is not much pain after the surgery. But vitrectomy is a major eye surgery that may cause retina detachment. That's what happen to me, I had done it more than one time. First one (eye filled with air buble), 2 years later get retina detachment and second one (eye filled with silicone oil) + lensectomy and this Feb the silicone oil is removed. If just for floaters vitrectomy I would be cautious to have the surgery. Floaters are very annoying but blind is worse.

How did your surgeries go? Can you see now? Also what does your eye look like on the outside after surgery? I need to go back to school and I don't wanna look all messed up.

What nobody understands is that yes they are just floaters, but they are so bad I cannot focus when I am in light! This along with diabetes has made my life complete and utter hell. I feel so unhappy that even something a little bit risky is worth it!

Hi, The eye looked from outside is a little bit red and not very noticeable. The red will be gone in about 3 weeks. My surgery originally was to fix Macular hole but the hole is not closed and the vision is very poor can just only see the Big E on the eye chart. I also have lots floaters both eyes. Even the bad eye with vitrectomy which use silicone oil to reattach the retina has many oil doplets left in it. The doctor did not get all the silicone oil out. In your case the silicone oil is not used and should not be a problem.

so the vitrectomy did not get rid of your floaters :O. That is the only reason I am having this done :(

Hello I am new to the site. I was just told by my eye doctor that I have to see a Retina Specialist for a Macular Hole next week. I noticed that my center vision on my left eye was distorted and blind spots. Did you have the same problems? what was your recovery period? is it as diffucult as I've been reading to maintain your head in the down postion so that the gas bubble does not move. Please give me an insite as to what I will have to go through.
