Hello all,

First, let me tell you all that I have never been diagnosed with seizures before. I'm fairly confidant I've had one when I was younger, though. During this event I remember it started when I felt extremely ill, nauseated, dizzy...Then my hands clenched up and stayed in a spasm, i literally could not move them. This lasted for about 5 min then feeling extremely dizzy I layed down and it eventually subsided. Does that sound like a seizure, and if so, what kind?

What made me think of this, is today I've been getting these strange muscle twitches. I was walking and all of a sudden I felt really "out of it" like my eyes flickered for a second. Weird feelings. I should note that my mom is on medication for seizures (she has had a few grand mal in her life time.) I don't know if seizures are hereditary though! Thank you all for any input.

They don't tend to be hereditary, only about 1% of epilepsy cases are. You can usually trace back in the family line and see a pattern multiple generations.

It sounds like you have VERY MILD seizures possibly. To verify if they are seizures or something else it would be a good idea to see a neurologist. Your past episodes would imply to a doctor that you have some sort of condition. Being these have occurred in the past as well as now.

Consider it is also possible for it to be an allergy or something else. Thus the need for testing.

i dont know if what you described was a sz or not, but its probably a good idea to see a neuro.

and about the hereditary aspect of e, my e is hereditary. my mom had it and now me and my sister both have it. so like travis said there is a small chance it can be passed down, but its possible.
