Hello everyone, I am new to these boards and originally joined because I just had my tonsils removed on monday and have been posting on the ENT board, however, I was browsing the site and was looking for a Myofascial pain board, and since I didnt find one, chose to check this one out since fibromyalgia and myofascial pain are pretty similar.

I am 26 years old and have been dealing with this constant, daily, pain for about 4 years now, however I didnt know exactly WHAT it was until October of 2006 and havent been receiving proper treatment until about November of 2006. Since receiving the proper treatment for it I have finally felt some relief, but of course still have my days where all I want to do is lay in bed, but even THAT is painful.

I believe my problem began as a result of a car accident in 2003, after this accident I went to seek treatment from a chiropractor, and he began his weekly adjustments of my back, eventhough I told him over and over again that it was not helping and I was still in constant pain. He insisted that I did need chiropractic adjustments, and dumb me seeking relief believed him and continued to be treated by him. Well this went on for about a year and I finally said this has to stop, I need to see some results. Well I had my primary care physician check me out, he had me have an MRI, CT Scan, and X-Rays to find out why I was having these horrible headaches and horrible neck and upper back pain. He concluded that I had severe muscle spasms and sent me to a pain management facility. The doctor there referred me to a physical therapist and suggested I receive PT for 3 months and then see him to check my progress. Not a week had passed of my PT sessions and already I felt an improvement. I was in heaven....for the first time in 3 years, I woke up without pain! Well continued my PT and the pain did get much better, but it was not gone completely. After my 3 months I visited the pain management doctor who put me through 2 sessions of trigger point injections. I have received PT, intensie massage therapy, and trigger point injections, and they have helped tremendously but the pain is still there, somedays worse than others of course. I take yoga lessons 3 days a week and I find that that also helps, and as soon as my tonsil surgery is completely healed (im on day 5 post op) I plan on making an appointment with a Physiatrist (spelled right?) to see if I can beat this myofascial pain thing!

Whew! that sure was long!
Well, thats all about me....hope I can get as much out of this board as I hope to give back!

Hi Sabrina:

Based on your description, you could indeed have FMS. Myofascial problems are a familiar those suffering from this condition. You might ask your doctor about botox injections. My pain doctor would inject botox in twisting muscles to help them releax and rest. Botox lasts for about 3 months, at which point another series of injections would be needed. I found the botox injections, combined with trigger point injections and PT to be very beneficial.

Take care,
Kirstee

Hello Kirstee and Kass,

thank you both for your comments.

Kirstee, I have read about both FMS and Myofascial pain and I kinda thought my symptoms identified more with Myofascial pain, but I guess when I go meet this new doctor who specializes in musclekeletal pain he/she will let me know.

Kass, I can answer any questions you may have to ask.

Thank you both for your comments.

-Sabrina
