Hi you guys! Well first shot was today at 2:45pm at the clinic with our nurse. It went excellent and hubby did it himself, nervous but he did great! 4 hours exactly he started to feel different he said. He took a tylenol 500mg half hour before shot due to a headache( he cut out caffeine cold turkey!!!!) He took a Ibuprofen 4 hours when he noticed feeling different after shot and he is feeling okay watching the hockey game with his friend. he says he feels a bit funny but nothing much. we will see how he does through the night now.Everyday 2 pills in the morning and 3 pills at dinner.Injection friday evenings. He also is going to take Folic Acid 1 mg every morning as well, suggested by his nurse for the possible fatigue part, he will also be taking a multi vitamin/mineral with no iron. He drank close to a gallon of water today and is still sipping. I have the magic heat bags ready for tonight in case he breaks out in chills and we will just wait and see now. WE are in control of this treatment we are going to do GREAT! I will keep you posted, hope you guys are doing great this evening.
Bye for now.... Faith

Hi again, Well it hit at about 10:45 pm last night, about 8 hours after shot, My husband had chills that were like nothing I had seen before, good old magic bags helped out for a bit. Then he couldn't sleep and started to sweat, he said it was all he could do to get upstairs to use the bathroom . This morning he is telling me his legs hurt , joints stiff. He plans to have a long nap today. I suggested Ibuprofen but he says "Naaah I will wait and see".ARrgghh! So we got through the first night and today is looking up, I will post if anymore sides come up .
Oh here is something interesting, our nurse was telling us they are using the PEg/Rebetron ( I believe) for MS patients.
Bye for now, Faith..... Have a great day!

Hi Faith!
I am so glad you posted. Tell hubby that this is only for a season and things will get better. His first night sounds like my first night with the same 8 hour time span.
Tell him not to be such a tuffy! He will feel so much better is he just takes the ibuprofen. Its not going to hurt him. I have to laugh at myself when I say this because here I am taking Ribavirin and I worry about taking Tylenol. Riba is much more toxic than ib or ty could ever be!!!!
Take care and your husband is blessed to have you by his side.

Faith-
Hi girl, glad to see, it was not un tolerable, that first one is always the hardest for most,
Statistics are showing the Pegetron, has a few more sides than the Pegasys [chills flu-like], also the Pegetron, seems to have sides quite quickly, where as the pegasys does not effect some of us for weeks, and the worst on Pegasys being day two/three.
The protocol on my program, is Tylenol, as when taken correctly is said to be the most effective, and is less damaging, tell hubby to take one if he needs it, on my day three, if I feel the flu-like joint thing coming on I take a Xtra strengh Tylenol, and I am good for the day.
On the Coffee thing,I tried to stop drinlking coffe also, that was worse than the whole treatment thing foe me, us Canadians love coffee, and strong coffee too, any way, lets say, they would not let me work for the Good Humour people, I still have three to four strong large coffees a day, with no side effects I know of.
I wish you both the best in the weeks to come,
hang in there,
Be positive, be well+
So glad to hear things went pretty well. Sounds like the normal first couple days happened to hubby.
My husband did the same thing on the second shot. About 8-10 hours later it was hot and cold for hours.
Have a flannel shirt, sweatshirt, etc., handy by the bedside. Then when Gerry gets the sweats I throw that in the wash and replace it. He doesn't do that so much now. I think the body is just "shocked" the first few shots.
Tell him drink then drink some more. Sounds like he's doing that but it's hard to keep up...the bathroom runs are horrible according to Gerry but he KNOWS it's for the best.
