Hi there I posted here a while ago after results of first scan showed osteoporosis (spine -2.8 and hips -2.1 an -1.9 (so osteopenia in hips). I have been on Fosomax for just over 2 years and also take herbal supplement called Reosto from India as well as calcium and vitamin D. Anyway I finally managed to get another scan (I have to pay for it but never mind) on the same machine. I had it done the other day and was given the results immediately which are spine now -2.5 so a 3 point increase which is brilliant:) and the hips are about the same which is also good news. Now I shall be too scared to come off Fosamax in case it goes back so am going to continue for the moment as well as continuing with the Reosto and Calcium and Vit D. I did take terramin clay for a while but the last lot I bought tasted a bit strange so that put me off. I'm still not very keen on staying on Fosamax but for now can't see the alternative. I haven't tried Ezorb yet as it would cost quite a lot by the time postage as been paid to UK. I see someone has mentioned an exercise vest in one posting which sounds like a good idea. Does anyone know anything about vibration platforms - I think someone has opened a shop with some in around here and I am sure I can remember reading something about something like that on here. good luck to all in search for treatment:angel:

There are many different models and prices, but most of the scientific studies have been done on the Juvent. Some of the other platforms give vibrations that are way too strong; they should not be stronger than 0.3g (giving you an additional 0.3 gravity). I used a Soloflex for nearly 2 years, then switched to the Juvent.

Hi suzieuk45, great news about your increased density, your efforts are paying off. I ordered a walking vest and have been wearing it for about a week now. I read somewhere that it takes carrying an extra 10 lbs. to get the most benefits to the bones. It will be a while before i get to that amount, the vest came with 4 and i haven't gotten extra weights yet. I've never tried a vibration board, but ahve read good things about them. You didn't mention exercise in post..do you walk or do weight training?

There is a drug now availabe in the UK ( i think) that you could try if you get off the fosomax..its strontium renalte, protelos, made by a French pharma company. Its main ingredient is strontium citrate, which i take in supplement form. It's shown to have good results in both increased density and reduced fractures and is widely used in Europe and many other places to treat osteo. I've been taking if for almost 2 years and did show an improvement in both hips and lumbar spine after 1 year. It's worth looking into and IMO a safer choice. K2 is another one that is used in Japan that is showing good results. Have you discussed with your dr your concerns about staying on fosomax? He may be able to suggest other options and may even be aware of the strotnium renalate.

 This is something to think about for all of us...when we take a drug/ supplemement plus eating a good diet and plenty of exercise i wonder how much improvement comes from the drug/supplements and how much comes from forming good habits and the efforts we make on own. take care...phyllis
