I went to a chiropractor yesterday and received acupunture. It was so relaxing. She thinks I have a myofascial problem. I will say I think I'm 10% better today. Still have pain in neck and shoulders but I feel less stiff. I'm going back next Friday for the full acupuncture treatment. She told me to double up my fish oil. She also said that compared to everyone else I have difficulty standing due to my condition. She said I had some of the worse tension and tightning in my neck and shoulders she has ever seen. I pray this will give me some relief. She is really expensive but my insurance will pay 60%. She said she really thought she could help me. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm glad it helped you! :) I was thinking about trying acupuncture, did your doctor refer you to someone? Also can you feel the needles going into your skin, I'm scared about that?

As long as it helps, it's a good thing.

I felt a couple of the needles but it wasn't really painful. More like a pinch. After they are in, though, you can't feel them at all.

Actually any time I get my blood drawn, a shot or when I have an EMG it causes a horrible flare. I guess things work differently for different people. But maybe it is do to my Streptococcal Arthritis. Maybe I will give this a try though. I am willing to try virtually anything especially since they are weaning me off Percocet and am a little nervous....the pain before was UNBEARABLE:(. See how it goes tough. I find deep tissue massage helps.
Wish I were rich and could have a personal one on call;).

My first visit was $150. My insurance will pay 60%. I'm not sure what my next session will cost. I know there are other qualified acupuncturist that are cheaper but this one was referred to me by a friend and found her treatment helpful.

I had an allergic reaction over the weekend and had to go to the emergency room Sunday morning. Have no idea what I'm allergic to but my eyes were swollen shut and I couldn't breathe thru my nose at all. I was also itching from my neck up. No hives just itching and swollen eyes. They started an IV and gave me steroids and antihistamines. They discharged me on Prednisone, benadryl, and tagamet. I must admit since I have been on steroids I have absolutely NO pain. My neck and shoulders are pain free. Steroids are something I wouldn't want to be on but if low doses would help my pain. Has anyone else ever tried steroids for pain control?? Gosh, it's like a miracle. My body feels 100% better.

Glenda, I've had to take steroids a few times -- prednisone -- and couldn't believe the difference either. I have FM and myofascial pain. The last time I took prednisone I was given it because I could hardly walk with hip pain--the doc called it bursitis and gave me the prednisone. Like you said, all gone, until the next thing that started hurting excrutiatingly. I blow up on prednisone though--the first time I ever gained weight was on prednisone, but what it does to pain is mighty sweet. Some say it won't help if you have fm; not sure, but it did help that hip pain last time. Glad you got some relief. What a nice outcome to such a rough time!

Hi Glenda,
I did a little research on acupunture & have started considering it as well. I read that it helps with so many things, like chronic fatigue, stomach issues, headaches, etc...I can't help but be skeptical though. How often do you have to go? I'm not afraid of needles so that doesn't bother me. I'll even pay if I have to. I'm willing to try but would love to hear more...
Thanks!
