how long does it take for hpv to show up? I was told by my doctor 21 years ago that I had gential warts, which were freezed & removed & haven't shown up & when I had a pap test last Sept. I was told I have hpv. Is this something that happens immediately or over years? Also, I was told by my GYN 21 years ago that I could end up with cervical cancer?

Hi,
The strains of HPV that cause genital warts don't cause cervical cancer, though it is possible to be infected by both types.
It's more likely that you've more recently been infected with the high-risk HPV strains.

Lisa
