I have been having a problem where my meds get stuck in my throat, especially on the right side. I usually have to guzzle water and move my head at different angles for it to go down. There are times that I physically have to take my finger, push the pill up a little On my throat(from the outside, not down my mouth) :eek:and swallow. It feels like it gets caught on a flap or something and can't get passed? Any ideas on what this might be? I did a little research and though maybe LPR(laranxphy?? reflux) but I am not sure about that. Does anyone else have this problem here. I know another problem to have and maybe some of it is MAJOR, MAJOR anxiety that I am having and can't get under control

Hey Brian.....Try chasing it immediately with a bite of food. Also, you may try to put the pill on your mouth and before you swallow, take a gulp of water and swallow the two together. Many people put the pill in their mouth, start to swallow, and then chase with liquid. The problem being that the pill gets partially stuck before your chase with liquid.
Hope this helps. If you're doing these suggestions already, I'm not sure what you can do.

Is there an actual lymph node that is on the inside of your throat? I can actually pin point the spot and it is sore and feels kind of like when I get those "white chunks" on my tonsils that I go in with a q-tip & listerine to rid myself of. I know it is unpleasant but sometimes they get there. I wish that my doctor would have taken my tonsils out when I was young, and they were so close to doing it considering how much I used to get strep throat. I just wonder if that mouth infection, followed by the flu, may have just seriously "taxed" my lymph nodes because my lymph nodes have NEVER completely gone down in the last 4 months along my neck/throat/ear area. Any thought would be appreciated

I was eating peanuts while reading your post and I now have one stuck in my throat! Seriously! I have this problem a lot. I used to cut my percocets in half because otherwise they would get stuck. Luckily, my doc switched me to oxycodone without the apap and they are much smaller.
I hope that if it is your lymph node that you finally get healthy and the swelling goes down. You've be run through the mill lately!~Mush

OH I hate when that happens! It depends on if the pill is coated or just plain. There are some pills that we take that are just terrible to swallow because there is no coating on the outside so they just want to stick to the roof or in the throat...hate that! You can try putting it in honey or jam or pudding/yogurt or something to help you swallow or just something like a fruit juice helps rather than plain water.

Brian,
You have many good suggestions. I used to have the problem with one of my meds, Soma. My pharmacy was using a brand that tasted terrible in your mouth for 1 second. That started the gag reflex and trying to swallow the pill became difficult.
I don't remember what meds you take (percocet or Oxy IR??). Like the previous post said, percocets can be split, and some capsules like kadian can me opened and mixed with applesauce. It is actually recommended in there medication info for people that have trouble swallowing pills. The only problem I have found with pill cutters, is that they work great at first and then the blade starts to go dull and your pill starts to crush. Some pills are formed better, but soma for instance does not split well. And of course you already know about the meds that can't be split.
For me, I find that if I first eat a food or fruit that makes me salivate, it is easier to swallow a pill. Although be careful because there are certain fruits that should be avoided with medications. I also never swallow a pill with water only. I try juice or flavored water, or gatorade. Many of us get up in the am and take are meds, however, this is when your mouth is generally the most dry. Get some foods, fruits, or liquids there first.
And as a last resort, you could see your doctor and see if you can have your meds compounded into an elixer that you can drink, or change to oxyfast if your taking oxy IR.
Anyway, all good suggestions that were posted. Give one or two a try and see if it helps.
Good Luck,
Take care.

Aranger: I know this is going to sound rediculous, but I've taken Soma for 8 years, off and on, and I've found the only thing that gets rid of that horrid bitter taste is chocolate! I don't get the initial gag reflex that you do, but I know it only takes that pill hitting your tongue for a split second to taste that bitterness. And water or other beverages don't get rid of it. I guess maybe it's the texture of the chocolate that kind of soaks it up and takes the bitterness with it.
Maybe other things with the same consistancy would work as well, but I'll take any opportunity that justifies a piece of candy!! LOL
Just thought I'd throw that out there. cmpgirl

Cmpgirl,
Its funny you say that. A couple of months ago, I took my soma, placed it in my mouth and swallowed it. Within seconds I had an awful taste like before. I tried drinking a soda that I had near me to no avail. So I rushed to the pantry, where my wife keeps all the "snacks" and grabbed a chocolate/carmel piece, and just kind of let it soak in. The taste was gone.... and I'm not much of a candy eater, but you're right, it worked like a charm.
Since, my pharmacy has switched brands, and these ones don't taste as bad. So I guess I have no more exuses for stealing my wife's chocolate..LOL
Take care.

Thanks Brian for the first time I choked on my oxycontin ever today!! I had to drink a ton of water and eat a cookie to get it down. :D
