First, I'd like to say hello to everyone. About a month ago, I had an abnormal pap smear, first one I've had (abnormal). The same day I had the pap smear, I started my period nearly immediately afterwards. Could this have made the pap look abnormal, when it wasn't? Any thoughts are welcome. :)

Hi Cindy,
Sorry to say, I highly doubt that having your period would effect a pap smear. I have had an abnormal pap smear and had the cells frozen, which was about 20 years ago and never had any other bad ones after. I did have a hysterectomy a few years ago and had to have the my cervix removed (this would normally be an option) but because of the bad pap smear I couldn't. Other than that, it hasn't effected my life at all. Just take care and make sure you keep up with your gyn visits and all should be fine.
The best of luck!

I agree, I don't think getting your period could have been the cause of the abnormal pap. On another note, don't freak out, most abnormal paps are nothing to worry about and go away on their own. If you do need to have cells removed it's not that bad, either.

Actually, it could have been the cause as I had it happen when I thought I was done with my period but wasn't. Having sex 24 hours before, taking a bubble bath, etc can also cause an abnormal pap. Just get rechecked whenever they tell you.
