Hello, I just came home with much info' on cataract surgery, which is recommended, with three options starting with the Monofocal Lens.... then upgraded IOLS, being.....

Crystalyns Accomodating IOM ....

ReZoom Mulltifocal IOL

ReSTOR Multifocal IOL

After reading many of the negative after surgery comments, I am depressed at the thought of going through any of these. The cost is very high for the last three, as they are not insured. But after many years off glasses, I thought the freedom of finishing my years without glasses, would be a joy.But not to pay the price, that so many of you, sorry to say, have had to go through, and having shared your'e sad experiences with us that are contemplating the surgery, is such a help. It seems no one has had a positive response to the these procedures, if so, would you please let us know.

Sincerely.

Irena.

Hi, I am having my right eye done next week with Crystalens. I have read a lot of the unhappy stories also but have decided to go for it. I will keep you posted on my progress.

Irena, perhaps people who are happy with their multifocal IOLs don't post on these boards, but as you say, nobody here has had anything good to say about them.

Hi KeelaC.
it would be really helpful if they did, I talked to a lady this morning who just had the Mono-vision, and her Opthomolegist, didn't recommend the other procedures, she said she went to a convention, and the question was raised whether they themselves, would have the multi-focal IOLs and their was a lot of no's. Which convinced her not to do those procedures.

I do wish Susanne great success next week.

Irena.

thanks Irena I really appreciate it.

I went for my eye measurement appointment today. I asked how many of this surgeon's patients are getting Crystalens and was told 80-85% - this was much higher than I expected.

I will tell you how it goes (and how my vision was before) when it's over (next Thurs)

thank you again Susanne

I am having cataract surgery and vitrectomy in in about 2 weeks and I have chosen monofocal. I think reading glasses look cool :P

Irena, it's a pain to cancel surgery, but perhaps that would be wisest in the long run. I think you need more than a few days to come to the right decision. Afterall, this is for the rest of your life.

I agree with KeelaC, Irena. Take your time and meet with more than one eye surgeon if possible, also discuss the situation with your regular doctor if you have one. I spent a long time reaching the decision I made.

Hello again! and thanks for all the replies and advice, and it looks like I wont be having cataract surgery after all, as I took the advice of getting a second opinion, and my own nagging doubt, and went to see someone highly recommended, who after a lengthy exam, and looking over my records from the other office, said he would not recommend surgery, as there wasn't enough cataract to warrant surgery at this time, and to come back in a year. Also that having had Lasex surgery several years ago might complicate things without a medical report from them, and to try track them down if I can.So I will do as he suggests, and will probably be back here next year with questions and hopefully meanwhile to see some of your progress etc' as I keep checking back on this site. Again thanks for all of your input, and Susanne keep posting to let us know how you are going on. All the best :)
