My gums in the back of my mouth are overlapping my back two teeth. Whenever I bite down I bite the gums and it is very painful. I cannot eat any foods and it just plain hurts. I just got over a virus called hand foot and mouth disease where you get ulcers in your mouth and all those are healed but now this is there.

not necessisarily
mine were underneath my molars and they didn't start causing problems until I was around 25 and I got them out.
can you try a water pic with some warm salt water?

LOL no
a water pic is a little machine that you use to squirt water in your mouth and it helps get your teeth clean by getting all the junk out.....
I like to use mine after I eat popcorn to get all the hulls out of my teeth.
it's like a mini-pressure wash for your mouth!

the listerine should help, the saltwater too....
you can get a water pic at walgreens, wal-mart, target, etc....
they're not that expensive and they really do work good!
but I think I'd go see a dentist if it doesn't improve soon.

What you describe sounds like pericornitis. A flap of gum tissue overlying a partially erupted tooth (very likely a wisdom tooth based on your age) becomes inflamed. Biting on the tissue aggravates the condition. Warm salt water rinses, gentle brushing, soft diet, OTC analgesics and a visit to the dentist should help.

Agreed, you have pericoronitis, sometimes called the 'gum sandwich' as the gum is trapped between the upper and lower wisdom teeth. You need to see a dentist who can relieve the problem by grinding the cusps down on the upper wisdom teeth or possibly removing the wisdom teeth.
