I started a new job.. and I didn't tell them I had Fibro (no reason to since I've never missed work because of my Fibro). However, a week in, they are telling me that I need to study this insurance manual to pass a state test for Health and Life Insurance... I'm just a Customer Service Rep who answers phones, files, types and stuff... not selling this stuff!?

I've tried.. really tried to study the book... but NOTHING sticks. I can't remember most of my sons life - how he heck am I supposed to remember the information in this book!?

My memory is the reason I dropped out of college... I wasn't doing to pay money for failing grades due to lack of memory - and I couldn't just wing college like I did high school.

Anyways.. I just don't know what to say/do about it..... I need this job! (since I was laid off on my last one, and it took 4 months to find a new one with the economy being what it is.) I can't afford to not work again.

All advise is appreciated.

I have had to take this test since I work in Life and Disability insurance for a large carrier. Did the book come with a CD? If so, skip reading the book. The CD will take you through a sample test and if I remember correctly it will go through each chapter too. This is all I did, but I took that test over and over again (it tells you if you got the answer wrong and if you did what the right answer was). Out of the three of us taking the actual real test, I was the only one who didn't read the book and I was the only one who passed.

Let me know if you have questions about anything in your studying...I may be able to help you understand what it means. Good Luck...I am with you when you say it is so hard to remember things now...it is like someone hit you with the stupid stick!

PS...
I can tell you that even in your position as a CSR, the info in this book/CD can be helpful.

Cindy, I have no help for you, your story is so similar to mine that I haven't braved job stuff or school stuff even though I want both. Sure hope gaudet is right and there is a way of escape for you so you can keep that job!

Cindy just sending some good vibes your way, and praying you will be fine. I have had the same problem for years. Gaudet seems to have some very good advice. Don't ever give up.

Gaudet2 --

Thanks - I do use the cd while at work.. since they would like me to study 30 minutes a day... but the book is what I can bring home... And it's just not sinking in. I'm a visual learner or I learn by doing. Since I worked in Florida as an Admin. Asst. for a Life/DI company I remember the basics there... (and got 92% on that part of the cd test).

Thanks for the advice on the CD - I'll try that... I see your in Maine, I am too --- since I kind of don't want the pressure.. I'm thinking about taking the test myself, and then (if I pass) letting them reimburse me... any idea where I would get info on where to take that test?

Thanks
Cindy

I wouldn't be surprised if we work for the same company...LOL!

I would actually highly recommend taking the test through your employer as they will pay for the test the first time around and then if you do fail you will have to pay for each subsequent test. If you do happen to work for the same company, I do know that a failed test is in NO WAY held against you.

It is great to know that you did so well on the CD on the parts that you are familiar with. If I remember, the majority of that test has to do with Life and Health so you should do really well.

I am very much a visual learner as well as learn by doing, that is why learning with the CD worked so much better for me. If you do decide to take the test on your own, I would first find out if they will reimburse you. If they will, you can probably locate the people who put out the test (the makers of the book/CD) and find a local location to take the test.

Let me know if you need anything else...I am here to help you.
