View Full Version : Trileptal allergy?

Being on tegretol for over 2 decades my neurologist is trying a new medication to avoid the side effects: liver enzymes a little high; red & white blood cell count a little low; sodium low.

He tried me with trileptal this week. I took 150mg twice a day starting Tuesday night. Sweating during a run Friday afternoon my entire body broke out in rashes. They were itching but not severe. I took benydral and they went away in about 4 hours.

Since trileptal is very similar to the tegretol I've taken for years he doubts wether this was an allergic reaction. He said it might of been a too high dose for my body to handle. He suggested trying it again at just 75mg per day.

I'm going to call my local allergists and PCP tomorrow and ask for thier opinions.

Since my entire body had rashes I feel it was an allergic reaction. Has anyone else ever broke out in rashes not due to an allergic reaction?

sorry your going through this but I been on trileptal for 3 years and never had reactions, at least not physically. Maybe your more sensitive to it than others. Try a lower dose if neuro feels its better for now then increase, but I take 1,200 mg/day B.I.D. it should be fine once you adjust. Good luck
