Hello,
My boyfriend can not eat most fresh fruits and veggies with out vomiting right after. when he was little he ate lots of both, but now if he eats a small amount he starts to feel sick.
He has been able to eat apples (granny smilth only, not sure why) and some letuce as long as its with meat and not crunchy. He said hes been to the doctor about it but they didnt know why this was happening.
He can eat all veggies if they are fully cooked and not crunchy at all.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
thanks!
Nik

Does your boyfriend have a allergy to sliver birch or hay fever, many pepole who do have what is called (Oral Allergy Sydrome) look it up and you can read for yourself.
I have the same problem with allergies it 's not nice... Hope this helps ...Maz

yes...oral allergy syndrome. Best news I guess....is the fact that OAS rarely prgresses into the more serious symptoms like anaphylaxis.
He may find that during the times of year that tree pollen is not in high gear....he will tolerate raw fruits and veggies much better.

With symptoms of OAS, I recommend looking for an allergist who is experienced with OAS. I live in Fairbanks, AK where we experience some of the highest birch pollen levels in the nation. Because of that, the allergist I went to knew exactly what I was talking about and he even suffered from OAS himself! He knew which allergy tests would work and what treatment options were available (even newer treatments).
As of the time I saw my allergist (6 months ago) there are only treatments for the pollen allergies (birch, grass, etc...) like the traditional allergy shots and a newer method involving drops under the tongue. However, these only treat the pollen allergy and to quote what my allergist told me several times, any improvements of the fruit and veggie symptoms are a "hoped for side effect of the allergy shots" He was very honest and said there was no guarentee that allergy shots would allow me to eat fruits and veggies again. I wish there was better news, but I'll take an honest doctor over any other. So try to find one with experience in OAS.
Finally, I totally sympathize with you! It really sucks expecially when I'm trying to eat healthy and lose my extra weight. I take a good multivitamin and eat lots of cooked veggies to try and make up for not eating anything fresh. I do recommend getting an Epipen to carry around just in case. I've had a couple close calls when I accidentally ate something that was "hidden" in a dish and expericened severe ichiness and trouble breathing that was close to anaphalatic shock. Liquid children's benedryl also helps with minor symptoms. Good luck!
