After hearing the controversy w/the plastic in the baby bottles, has anyone replaced theirs? I use Avent, but now I read that they are unsafe?
Wondering what everyone's thoughts are.

Lindsay how are you and your DD? It has been a while since I heard from you.
As for the bottles. I still breastfeed. The occasional bottle that he does have I just use the plastic bottles. I called the company that I get the bottles from and they said there is so little amount it is okay. I use the same bottles for Daunte that I used for my DD (but new). And she has no problems.
Hope everything is good with you. Sherri :)

I switched to glass. The government gets paid by special interest groups to say BPA is safe to ingest. Call me crazy, you wouldn't be the first, but I'd just as soon use glass.

I started hearing the hype around the time my son was 4 months. I had intentions of putting him on a cup around 6 months anyway, so I just made sure to buy BPA free sippy cups.

The last report I heard was if you heated the contents in the bottle to boiling then it would release the bad chemicals, but I haven't heard the most recent issues. We only heat the bottles up to just warm, not hot. I may be wrong, that was just the CNN report I heard.

I just did a search on news on this and didn't find much backing up my post...except that one article said heating, even in dishwashers, causes elevated "leaching" of the chemical. Yikes. On one hand I'm glad my son is one year and just about to switch from the bottle to cup...but on the other hand, wonderful, his first year he was exposed to something maybe I could have avoided?? How frustrating, right?

If there is a number 7 on the bottom of the bottle (it's hard to see, sometimes its inside a triangle shaped symbol) that means it contains the harmful chemical. A few years ago the government forced companies to inform people what combinations of chemicals are in their products. As if anyone would know what a tiny number means...!

Would sterlizing the bottles in a sterilized have the same harmful effect as boiling? DS is 17 months old but still is unable to transition to sippy cup.
I use avent and sterilize them regularly.

Yes, any type of heating of the plastic releases the chemicals. The questions that are unanswerable are how much is released and how harmful is it?

I just heard on the news this morning that Walmart has decided to stop selling bottles where BPA is present. I think the news said effective next year....

I hadnt heard anything about plastic bottles until reading this post, but if this was the case, and plastic bottles were that harmful, wouldnt we have alot of ill people from all the years that plastic bottles/cups had been used?

Well lucii, that is the thing, they do not know for sure when it comes to this topic. I remember back in the 80's when there was a scare that apple juice was causing cancer. Yes, it was all over the news and parents stopped buying apple juice. Well, they ended up being wrong! I think it is so important to read and proceed cautiously when it comes to these issues, but not to take every thing you see as gospel until we know for sure. Goodness, weren't we all brought up on plastic bottles?

People are ill, there is a lot of disease, cancer, and sickness out there, yet we have more drugs that ever. It is a build up over time of the chemicals and foreign substances that are going into our bodies that lead to the cancer, disease, and sickness. You may not get sick overnight, but after years and years of chemicals building up in the body will lead to where were are now. The body doesn't filter out toxins well because they are not suppose to be in us and the body will store these toxins in the cells/tissues.
