Hello,
I was told that I had HPV 4 yrs ago. Ever since then the pap tests have turned out normal.
My question is this: I want to teach abroad next year and I have to have a medical report filled out. On it, it askes whether or not I've ever had a communicable disease.
The application form says that anyone with a positive result for illegal drug use, alcoholism, communicable disease, etc will be automatically disqualified for the job.
I would appreciate any advice. thanks.

Hi,
If you tested positive for HPV four years ago and have had normal Paps ever since, then your body probably fought off the virus and you no longer have HPV, if it was the high-risk type. (Other strains of the virus cause genital warts, but not cervical cancer.)
I can't see how that would interfere with getting a job overseas, especially since HPV is so common. But you could always call your doctor to ask, just to be sure.
Good luck!
Lisa

I'm not an expert on this by any means, but I would say that by "communicable disease" they mean something that you could pass on through normal, everyday contact with people, like tuberculosis or measles.
