Hello Everyone,

Just to report back that for about the last 10 days I have felt pretty well again (after nearly 18 months of all the horrible menopause symptoms!). Still getting an odd hot flush, and a bit of the internal shaking, but the depression/anxiety/strange feelings/foggy head/insomnia/sheer tiredness/ lack of motivation and confidence, etc have definitely lifted.

Now I don't know if it's just coincidence, or maybe my body is just learning to adjust to the hormone imbalance, but I have been taking high strength evening primrose oil each day for about a fortnight now, also having a glass of soy milk every day after reading somewhere that Chinese and Japanese women hardly get any menopause symptoms because their diets are so rich in soy.

Will let you all know how things progress - but maybe these things are worth a try? (though you have to give them time).

Congratulations! I wish I was there with you. Are you taking any medications that have helped, or is it all natural?

Keep up the good work.

Pud, you actually answered one of my other posts and helped calm me a bit with the fear I have with this internal trembling. Did you also have some mild twitching with that as well? I try to stay calm but every day when another little quirky thing thing happens my anxiety level rises. So glad to hear that you are finally feeling some relief! I get scared and worry about MS or Parkinson's...I would be interested in hearing what your regimen is as far as the natural therapies you have used. Thanks for encouraging words...it is amazing how this support is such a help!

Hi all,
Thanks for your replies.

I'm really not too sure what exactly is helping me, whether it's the anti-depressants or not, though I think maybe it's just coming through things naturally because they certainly did not work when I was first struck down with all the horrible menopause symptoms!

I have been taking just a high strength oil of evening primrose pill each day, and having 1 or 2 drinks of soy milk a day. It can be bought from most supermarkets, with the ordinary milk. I get the lighter, unsweetened version. It's not the most pleasant taste, I don't mind it, but lots of people don't like the flavour. If so, I would advise just holding your nose and drinking it down quickly! Usually there are soya yogurts and spreads available too.

I'm sure we do eventually "settle down" in the menopause, though it's no quick things. I guess our bodies just begin to adjust to the major hormone changes. I had a talk with a psychiatrist yesterday and she said that if we are a bit vulnerable at the time of the menopause, e.g. lots of life stresses, and/or have had depression and anxiety in the past, the huge hormonal shift will make things even worse for us! She stressed it IS an illness like any other because there are major chemical upsets going on in our brains and bodies, but sadly because no-one can see it, it doesn't get the sympathy and care it deserves!

I think another important thing is just to take care of ourselves each day. If you don't feel like doing anything, then don't! Pamper yourselves and don't feel any guilt about doing so!

So take heart, you can't help how you feel. I think also in time you get used to the awful symptoms and just get on with life with them there. Difficult, I know, but I think all things will pass in the end. I still have an odd though/feeling here and there, but what the heck.......

Hope this helps.

Hi suzie,
Yes, I get the twitching too. All of these and all the other quirky symptoms are caused by the menopause. I know what you mean about thinking something is seriously wrong, Parkinsons, etc, but it's a pretty safe bet there isn't! I felt so physically and mentally ill at one time that I thought I must have lukaemia or something. After blood tests all came back normal (except for the hormone imbalance) I found it hard to believe it was all down to this, I was like to the doctor "are you sure?".
The menopause throws up the most strange symptoms, but believe me, you are not going mad or anything. It's amazing how you get used to things in time. It really used to alarm me when I believed I was going mad (incidentally, people who are truly mad don't think they are!!), but when I got this thought again the other day, I just said to myself, "oh, here it is again, you know this means nothing". And then it just passed.
It is a case of "learning to live" with the awful symptoms, but take heart, they do begin to settle down in time.
I've spoken to loads of older women who now say yes, they remember this time was awful, but they came through.
So, courage everyone and try to learn to live with it (for now at least!)
