I started Lyrica on 4/9/08. When I go #2 I have been experiencing excessive bleeding, ie...blood filled toilet. Also my tp is covered with lots of blood when I wipe.

Keep in mind that I did have a hemorrhidectomy, fissure repair, and a sphincterotomy on 2/15/08, but according to my gastroenterologist, I should be healed by now. I had an appointment with him last week, before I went on the Lyrica, and he said that I wasn't completely healed which was odd, but that he wanted to see me in a month. I was only spotting on the tp when going #2 at this point. Within the last 3 days, when I go, there is A LOT of blood. I even have blood a little when I only go pee (I always check just in case). I have a call in to my gastroenterologist now...my PCP is out today.

My question is...can the excessive bleeding I am having just be because of the Lyrica? I really don't think it could be anything else as I had a colonoscopy at the time of my surgery and everything was fine.

Please help!

I read on the side effects of Lyrica that unusual bleeding may occur. Hemorrhoids can cause a lot of blood, but if you're really flooding it sounds like it could be something more. If you don't hear back from your doctor today, can you go to the ER? You don't want to end up anemic from blood loss....or anything else that comes with blood loss.

I actually have a doctor's appointment tomorrow to find out if I can go back to work (I have been out for a month due to the fibro). I will mention it to her if I don't hear back from my gastroenterologist tonight. It costs me $100 every time I go to the ER, so I don't want to go unless I have to.

Also, the surgery I had removed the four internal hemorrhoids I had, so the bleeding shouldn't be from that, but who knows. I am getting some cramping now, so I hope it isn't anything that can't wait until tomorrow morning.

I hope the Lyrica isn't what's causing the bleeding; on the other hand, I wouldn't want you to suffer from your hemorrhoids any more either. My friend had a hemorrhidectomy (sp?) and had a subsequent bleeding episode that was pretty scary (she wasn't taking Lyrica). I wouldn't wish it on anyone! But you also need some relief from your other pain. It would be nice if the Lyrica worked for you.

Sounds like you've had a pretty rough time of it. I am definitely sending some prayers your way.
