Have any of you taken any vitamin or supplement that might help calm my sciatic nerves?
I am in a lot of pain right now, going from knee hight down to my ankle.

I am taking omega-3 right now because that's a good anti-inflammatory...don't know if it'll help with sciatic pain (I have pain in my calf/ankle so I'm hoping it does).

Ohhhhh how I wish!!!! If there was such a thing, I'd buy stock in it! I personally take fish oil and other supplements, but it doesn't seem to make any difference for my sciatic or other nerve pains...nor my arthritis. But that is me, perhaps one of those things might help someone else.

OK, thank you all! I already do take Omegas and Evening Primrose.
I thought I read somewhere that magnesium was helpful.
I might be totally wrong:(
I sure wish there was something, to make our angry sciatic nerves calm down!
Mine is so pissed off now!

I know a magnesium imbalance in your body can be a cause of muscle cramps, and if an imbalance is found, then you can take it and the cramps might stop. But I don't think it does anything for nerve pain that's caused by a spine problem.

The answer to your question is no. Only positioning will help sciatic pain. Check the internet for things you can do but mostly sciatic pain is something that eventually will require surgery and not doing certain physical things that cause irritation to your back....like horse back riding or a Jeep on a bumpy rut filled road. Sometimes helpful is laying on your back with both legs flexed.

I hope that I'm not breaking any rules here by naming products, but you are in pain and yes there IS a supplement called "Nerve Fix" by NaturalCare that helps relieve numbness, tingling, burning, nerve pain and pins and needles feelings; and it works because I used it already. It's homeopathic.

Les, thank you I'm going to order some right now!
Can't hurt, can only help!

FYI-Maybe remove the phone number, just leave product name to avoid Health Board issues.

Please post and let us know if this stuff helps.I'm absolutely miserable with my sciatica pain.It goes from my butt,to hip,to thigh, down to my calf and its getting almost intolerable at times. It just feels like a bunch of knives stuck in me all down my butt and leg and whenever I move this way or that way they are all just stabbing me.

I absolutely will, I expect it will take a month or so though...
Even if it helps a bit I will be happy, I know and sympathize with your pain.
For me its like someone is pulling a string wayyyy to tightly inside my leg, from the knee to ankle, and it keeps zinging me!

HI Mmasan. Are you doing any physical therapy right now? Stretching can greatly help reduce it.

A calcium/magnesium/potassium supplement are all important minerals for proper muscle contraction and expansion, to include relaxation of the muscles. When these are out of balance our muscles can do some odd things to include serious cramping etc. I dont know that these will help the nerve itself, but maybe could help with some of the issues actually causing your sciatica.

Not sure this helps at all, but thought to throw it out there. I know when my muscles would spasm it made my sciatica tons worse.

Take care and I hope you get some much needed relief.:)

Thank you "JustOne"
I have three herniated discs I'm doing battle with right now! I did a bit of spring cleaning and aggravated myself.
And I have been doing my usual stretching, its just not helping at the moment.
So I know why I'm having sciatica, I'm just hoping I can get it to resolve on its own without surgical intervention. As it has in the past....

I think you have a good mind set and that is the right approach. I had a flare up that started in January and it took to mid March to start getting relief from it. Some of these flares just dig in deep and take longer to recover from.

You hang in there!!

I hope that it helps you; call around and if your local health food stores don't have it they probably can order it for you. It's homeopathic and it did help me with nerve pain that I had from a ruptured disc pressing on the sciatic nerve. Hope it helps and I hope that you can treat the "root" of your problem to eliminate the pain. And thanks for the tip about the phone number-I removed it!
