View Full Version : Should I go for a 2nd opinion?

So, my last pap came back abnormal AGAIN. I went in for a colpo yesterday. I mentioned to him about the bleeding and cramping after sex. He said "Did you tell him he was a brute?". Um...what? He looked and saw something suspicious and did a biopsy on it. He also scraped my endocervix to see if anything was there causing the pap to be abnormal. So, before I left, I asked him if he thought he knew what might be causing the bleeding. He said "Maybe it's him, not you". Then proceeded to say that it could be coming from my uterus. Ok..wouldn't you think he would schedule or do more invasive testing? I don't know..what do you guys think.

Thanks

Hello Shellbel78

Perhaps he wants to see what the pathology results are on the biopsy he took yesterday before determining the next course of action? But I must say the remarks you say he made leave a lot to be desired. I mean what was he implying, by "Maybe it's him, not you?". I mean here you are already stressed out and he gives you an answer like that?

I don't know I guess I would be more upset about that.

What was the result of your original pap?

Let us know what the biopsy shows when you get it.

Good Luck,
Marie

I have no idea what he meant by that, but it irked me. I would think if he wanted to wait to see what the results of the biopsy say, I would think he would tell me that? I don't know. He really didn't tell me what my original pap was, just that it was abnormal. The HPV test came back neg. though.

When you get the results of the biopsy why don't you request a copy of both your pap and the biopsy report. then you can post the results here. the ladies here are really knowledgeable and supportive. I have learned alot in the short time I have been coming here.

At least he told you you are HPV negative. That's good but you should still have copies of your tests. this is important not just for now but who knows maybe 10 years down the road.

Seriously though, I think his remarks were unprofessional and inappropriate. And I get the impression that the communication channel between the two of you has a lot of static on it.

He just told you the pap was abnormal???? What does that mean??? It could mean anything from a little infection to full blown cancer. You deserve more information than that.

My 2 cents? Yes, I'd get another doctor. He has no business making comments about your partner being a "brute" or implying your partner is rough or exceptionally sized.

I agree, ask for copies of both pathology reports when you get them back. And then find another gyn if you need further testing.

I went to my gyn just over a month ago for a colposcopy and ECC (the endocervical scraping that you probably had). It was after that pathology report came back (atypical glandular epithelial lesions and adenocarcinoma in situ) that the doctor said we needed another sample and scheduled my cold knife cone biopsy.

Remember, the pap is just a screening tool. The colpo and ECC (and any other biopsies at that time) give a larger sample than the pap. The cone (or LEEP or whatever) gives an even larger sample).

I hope that helps.

Hello

I just read another post of yours indicating you have been having abnormal paps and biopsies for the past year. Do you have the results of previous biopsies taken this past year?

Did you not get any treatment based upon the last biopsy result???

I am assuming also that you are dealing with the same doctor.

They just called me with the results. Negative. I had another bleeding episode this morning. It was bad. Left a trail to the bathroom. What the heck is going on with me? :(

so what did they say in your response to the fact that you had another bleeding episode this morning??

left a trail to the bathroom? Is it at all possible that the blood is NOT coming from the vagina - have you had a complete urinalysis and culture to rule out a UTI?

Marie
