I am 50.. I knew I would fall apart when I turned 50! I feel horrible ..just horrible! I have alwys been active..I ran or walked 5 miles everyday! Now I can barely drag myself out of bed...
I don't sleep good at night..Wake up several times sweating..Just wet....I go to sleep then wake up then go back to sleep an hour or two later sleep maybe a hour then wake up again...This is almost every night!!!
I also found out 6 months ago I have a small cyst on my right ovary..The doctor said I was in peri menopause for one thing and that the cysts would go away on its own...well it still hurts ...It bothers me so bad that I don't feel like walking...and that is not like me...
I have thought about using progesterone cream but scared of it...After reading the label that said it has been known to cause cancer?? and din't know how the cyst would react to it...I am moody all the time and really hard on myself about the way I am acting...Just not me...My whole body is changing...I just don't feel good...

Hi Diannem: You have come to the right place! Everything you have described, is something all of us have either gone through or are going through still. Menopause can be a nightmare, and the symptoms can be anywhere from slightly annoying to downright debilitating.
Hormones are nasty little buggers. And since you mentioned the cyst, I believe they can be somewhat common during peri and meno. These benign cysts are generally hormone induced or vice versa.
I'm sure if you read through many of the threads here on the board, you will find that as you read you will have lots of "me too" moments. It is a great place to learn from other women and get much needed support.
Have you talked at any length with your GYN about prescriptions or natural supplements? I'm sure you will be able to get some great advice from the other ladies here. About the cream, I would definitely ask your GYN if it is safe for you. He/She should be able to help you find out what kinds of remedies would work best for you. I personally have chosen not to go the way of the prescribed hormone replacement, because I am adopted and have no way of knowing any family history. It works very well for many women, but is a personal choice.
Many of us suffer from anxiety and/or depression. I know I have anxiety now, for the first time in my life. Also high blood pressure. I am on meds for both now. I thought I was losing my mind. The lack of energy is exasperating and the sleep disturbance takes it's toll as well.
I hope this helps a little and please post often. We can all relate. Hang in there and God Bless, cmpgirl

Have you tried any other natural remedy rather than the prog cream since you are worried? I too am just 51 and feel like I have been jolted into my menopause but as I look back I had the more bearable subtle symptoms ofr some time but it never hit me that it was peri...but I now have the shaking and trembling and the difficult nights...so I can relate. I havent really had the bad hot flashes but after this trembling thing I may want to trade;) I too was really active and always a bundle of energy always moving and running...so...maybe what we need to do..is slow it down a bit. Get into a good groove with exercising even when we dont want to...I feel worse in the morning so that is when I decided I am going to get up and get going. And I do know that when I am at rest...at night or trying to sleep or first wake up...my anxiety plays with me so I am trying to keep my mind busy on staying in control of me as best I can...and not let my imagination take over and make me start freaking about this being another type of illness! Let's all keep talking...it really helps!

I could not have replied any better than you have. Ditto to everything. Lack of sleep, waking up, moody, anxiety, I am so grumpy, lack of energy, just wanting to sit on my couch, (I am a teacher and work everyday) sometimes I wonder how, cloudy, and the list goes on. Things I never had before. I am starting after feeling bad for over a year and a half to be more accepting of what is happening to my body. I am just going with it. This is hard to believe but I feel better now that I have been more accepting of these beastly hormones. Does anyone know is menopause going to be better than peri? Alyce20

I work from home and now consider it a true blessing...applause to you all who still have to report for duty every day. I just am not sure I could do it. And to be a teacher...how great is that! How wonderful that you are getting on with it so to speak. God Bless!

Hi Diannem,
I'm wondering what's happening to me too!!
First of all I'm on a low dose BCP and thought I would avoid all of this BUT I am not.
My anxiety level is high, my BP is high and my heart rate is making me nuts! I wake in the night with my heart racing.
So far I've had a thyroid test (normal), 24 hr urine test (results not back), and EKG which showed a normal rhythm but too fast, and I'm yet to have a stress ECHO.
I feel awful. I try to get ready to go out and all I do is perspire with my heart racing.
I hope help is in sight.
Chantal

Thanks for listening..I have not worked in years until 2 years ago..Both my girls are in college so we need the extra income...now I work from 8-5 Monday -Friday...It is hard to get up and go to work...and when you work for a women who is a few years younger and has never even noticed a difference in her montly periods from one month to the next...has no clue how it feels...she said she had a cysts once and because of that she had everything removed and has been on hormones and she said even then she was never bothered by anything...all i can say is for the last 30 years of my life I have been on a rollercoaster ride...with alot more downs then up...When I was younger I was told I had PCOS..I started getting alot of hair on my face..was tested and that is what they can up with...But no one ever wanted or knew how to treat me...so I never have had anything done..except for nerve pills or antidepressants (which made thing worst)and made me feel really crazy...That is what I feel alot of doctors think that it is all in our heads...
I have tried some herbs that helped with night sweats but nothing for the mood swings...and I gained 12 lbs while taking them..
All I can do it just hang on and repeat " This too shall pass" and remember "the Lord does not put on us more then we can handle" Even though It sure feels like it has come close a few times!!!
