Okay. I'm going to take a minute and share my total frustration with shopping. I almost can't make it though the BIG store without feeling like I'm going to pass out. My eyes feel all funky, things look like they're vibrating, get hot flashes...Lord, have mercy, it's miserable. I'm honestly very shaky feeling and on the verge of throwing up by the time I get to the register. Now, if I go and only have to deal with one side of the store, I'm usually ok, but to take it on in one trip is overwhelming. I posted in the eye message board about these strange visual disturbances I've been having, but wonder if any of you have them too. Some things do this more than others and times (particularly under flourescent lighting) almost everything looks like it's vibrating. Being that it does not happen all the time and to everything I'm looking at I don't believe there is anything wrong with my brain and feel more confident it's just one of those weird fibo things. Any thoughts on the eye stuff? Anyone else hate shopping in the BIG stores as much as me??

bleigh, I have had the eye thing before. Don't have any idea what it is, but it went away. I have to have my eyes thoroughly examined every 9mo. to a year because of meds I take and the opthomologist has never said anything was wrong. I didn't mention it to him because it had stopped.
I do hate any shopping big or little stores. It is the walking and the feet hurting and the worst for me is the middle of my back begins to hurt and that can be the most painful of all. Shopping really just wears me out!

I know it's not a nice thing to say, but I'm glad someone knows what I'm talking about with the eye thing. I'm hoping it goes away soon. I had to walk around that store with my sunglasses on looking like a crazy lady. Told my best friend I'm going to have start going with sunglasses and a huge wide brimmed hat as shielding my eyes from the lighting is the only thing that may allow me to shop in comfort (eye comfort anyway). But, I can't wear sunglasses in my house all the time so I'll just have to look away from the offending "vibrating" objects. Praying this will pass quickly....

I know what you're talking about. You might try getting a pair of the amber "driving glasses" to wear inside the stores. It may be enough to stop this effect for you. I've just been trying to find a pair dark enough for out in the sun. The sun just kills my eyes.

Ive come to hate shopping big time now... bending down to reach things searching through coat hangers... you know your going to have some mega pain later on that day or for the next few days :( never mind xx

Glad this isn't just me! I had to do the grocery shopping the other day at Wal-Mart, and I actually got so dizzy and exhausted, I had to sit down on the floor (there wasn't anywhere else nearby to sit). I felt so horrible, I really didn't care what anyone else thought.
An employee came up to me and asked me if I was all right, and basically said I was just recovering from an illness and got very fatigued. It was all I could do to get up and get through checkout and home. Unloading took me forever, and the non-perishable items stayed out for quite a while!
I don't want to have to resort to the "scooter," but I am so wiped out lately that I haven't been buying much or shopping very often.
I wonder if you're on to something with the lights--they seem to impact my vision too. Hmmm....

I just hate shopping in general. Always have. Unless I'm in a bookstore, then you have to practically make me leave!

Thanks ya'll for letting me know I didn't just pull this one out of thin air!! Managed to make it though the super Kroger a little while ago to pick up a few things I forgot yesterday. Just wore my sunglasses all through that store and didn't get too much visual disturbance.
I LOVE to shop even if I'm not buying anything. That's why it makes me insane that some people believe it's all in our heads. Why would we want to give up or limit what we really love and enjoy?? Personally, I would love to be running my own store right now, I would love to have the energy to have a spic and span southern lady home, I would love to entertain family and friends every weekend, I would love to be out running all over creation.......sorry I got off on a tangent.

LOL--my house is so dirty, and my energy levels so low, I consider cleaning the toilets a major job. I haven't vacuumed in two weeks (I have tendonitis in my right arm, and am right-handed) and the pet hair is starting to weave itself into a sweater or something. All I do is load the dishwasher and take a plate out when I need it. I guess I need the Merry Maid brigade!
Entertaining? What a foreign concept to us FMer's! But I'm with you, I'd love to be able to do those things.
Gotta go back and watch the hair continue to accumulate....

Well, I don't have to clean the kitchen and dining room floors!! OK, so I still have to mop them, but my little ones are having a ball with the broom and dust buster vacume. Decided yesterday they were going to have chores to do everyday and they are so excited about the chore chart and getting star stickers when they complete something.
I've been battling kitty hair for a few months and have not been happy about this new thing to deal with. However, right now I'm worried my baby kitty has gotten lost and I would love for her to be shedding all over my sofa instead of being out there. She's gotten used to spending time outside, but I haven't seen her since we left for the grocery store. I think I'm going to have to go for a walk around the neighborhood so I can hunt her down. She's so worth the fur all over the house...such a sweet kitty.....

I too get a vision problem...my opth doc said that the floaters are due to low amounts of gel in the eye...basically it's dry eye syndrome. I also get bothered by the lights. Especially in stores that are bright. I went to the mall last night for over 2 hours & when I left, not only was my body in major agony but I couldn't see good & I had a massive headache. EVERYTHING with fibro is a PROBLEM!!! I'm starting to feel sorry for myself (and others with this terrible problem)...and I hate feeling that way. i hate pity but I think we could all use some sometimes!! Take care everyone!

She popped in last night as I was trying to gather them up one more time so I could close the garage doors. I bet she was in the neighbor's yard checking out their little pond. She kept me awake the better part of the night yelling at the door...we have allergies so they have to sleep in the garage. Wish I could put a muzzle on her.....

Hello,
I remember having that a lot. It wasn't so bad at home. However, in the stores the floresent lights made me sick. At home I knew it was happening when I would look at the clock on the Microwave. The clock would be wavy, It's hard to explain. I would be sitting down and then look over to see the time on the micro and the numbers would jump up and down. It's really strange. It hasn't happened to me for a while now.
take care
M

Shopping for me is a disaster waiting to happen!
I have resorted to the scooter!
Especially at the big W-mart. I swear its the floor in there.
It starts in my feet for me then goes up my legs to my hips. I also get the dizziness and hot flashes, and the lights in there also make my eyes jump.
I use to work for an electrical contractor and he told me once that Florescent lights flicker at a fast repetitive rate that is not noticed by the human eye, although I swear that I see it.

Shopping for me is a have to thing. I make a list and try to do as much as I can at one time, that is if it is a good day. Otherwise, I don't go. I never go grocery shopping at the super stores, they are too big. We have what we call the little store very close to us. Actually it is one of the original stores for a chain here. They remodeled it a few years back and expanded it a little and it is the perfect size. We use to never use it because we were so attached to the bigger stores. Then fibro just seem to get worse and I would always say lets go to the little store and braveman would say no the big store and I finally said, I can't walk through that whole store it wears me out. When I need something special for a recipe and we have to go to a super store, it drives me crazy trying to look at everything and find what I need.
When it comes to clothes shopping, I order from catalogs as much as I can. Of course I don't get dressed up anymore than I have to these days so it's easy. People that are in good health and have the energy to just go go go, don't always get the fact that my energy has gone gone gone!!!!
Another thing about shopping and being out in stores, the NOISE drives me crazy. I am really very sensitive to loud noises. All the noise and the people rushing and going and coming. I always try to shop on days that will be a little less hectic. I am just an old fuddy duddy anymore!

I've decided that shopping isn't hard, it's just the stores and other customers which make it a nightmare ! Screaming kids, wonky trolleys, stores constantly re-arranging their shelves, bad lighting, dopey assistants, uneven floors and music that should be banned......... I can't wait to go ;)
