Hi all:

I was wondering if petechiae has anything to do with fibro? Do any of you all get this?

On Sunday I noticed on my left upper arm I have some...since then it has gotten a little bit worse, spreading a little bit. This happened a few months ago on my right upper arm, but it went away in about a week. I went to the doctor when it happened the first time and all of my blood work was great.

Do you all think I should wait a few more days to see what happens or what?

Thank you for your help!

What did the doc say when he saw it? Did he think it was anything to be concerned about? I have had it at various times, but I usually don't worry about it and just let it go away on it's own. It always does.

Okay Blue, I just went and looked it up. It's bleeding from under the skin... shows up as pinpoint dots. It is the breaking of tiny capilaries and sometimes comes about from coughing.
This is a brief description, and there is a more detailed explanation if you do a search for it.

He really didn't say a whole lot about it. My blood work came back fine, so that was the end of that.
I made a docs appt. for next Friday for it to be looked at. It's not normal for me, so I figured I should get it checked out. I don't think it's a fibro thing.

I've had this since I was a child, just a couple of dots then. It was said it had to do with my clotting time. Now that I'm 50, they are all over my chest, arms, neck & some on my face & stomach. I had seen a hematologist and was told it was nothing to worry about, although I don't really know what the cause is in my case. I've had FMS for 16 years but these appeared long before. It seems the more sun-exposed areas have it. I never thought to connect it with FMS though. Interesting.

Are they petechiae or campbell de morgan (cherry angioma) spots? Petechiae are literally pinpoint red spots. They can indicate some more serious medical problems so they should be investigated (autoimmune disease, thrombocytopenia, etc). The angioma type spots are common, esp as you get older; they are maybe the size of the tip of a pencil led or a bit larger. There are also hemangiomas.

I have both the old age angioma and the petechiae. I get the petichia a lot when I have those awful barfing spells. I one of those people that throw up anytime I have a headache or upset stomach. I have had such severe petichiae that I have had to stay inside for a day or so, I looked like I had been in a bar fight. It always go away in a few days. I have had it just show up on my chest area or neck area and then it goes away after a few days.

See blue something you had and didn't know it. I don't know about you, but I have lots of strange little things that happen and I don't really always want to know what they are.....giggle!

I have just recently been getting petechiae. My husband thought I was crazy because at first he couldn't even see them. They are all over my forearms, chest, and even my eyelids.

I throw up all the time, too! How strange. Its something we have been trying to figure out forever. I always thought it was the pain meds.

Thanks for the replies.

I have no idea what it could be from. I looked it up on the internet and of course all kinds of scary things come up. I really need to stop looking things up ;)
They are actually disappearing a little bit, so who knows. I'll probably still go to the doctor just to give myself peace of mind.

Have a great day all!
