Hi, I was recently prescribed LoEstrin 24. My doctor told me to begin the cycle the Sunday after my period. My period began on a Saturday, and I was bleeding heavily the next day, so I waited until the following Sunday to take the first pill. I just read that I was supposed to take the first pill regardless of bleeding. Do I have to call my doctor? Has anyone else had this problem?

When the doctor said for you to start it the Sunday after your period starts, it meant whenever was the first Sunday after you started your period. Now that you started it a week late, you're most likely going to have some problems with your cycle. I'm really not sure what you can do at this point, except ride it out. I think you can probably expect some weird bleeding at off-times until your body adjusts to having been thrown off schedule. Basically just expect the unexpected for a while until your body calms down on its own. It might take a few cycles, though, I'm really not sure.

I had to start taking birth control pills a few months back for reasons other than birth control and I start taking them in the middle of my cycle rather than the sunday after, I would say just stay the course and take the pills as you have been and use another form of birth control for this first month just incase! :) By the 2nd month you should be fine as far as birth control goes, but remember it can take a few months for your body to become adjusted to the pill and it is NOT unusual to have breakthrough bleeding at times whe you shouldn't! Good Luck!

Thank you! I just wanted to make sure it was okay to ride it out. I guess I must have misunderstood my doctor or something, because all I heard was the Sunday after my period... I never heard her say after it starts. :-/ Oh well, as long as it's not too big of a deal.
