--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hi.
my platelets have been going up since the year 2005 and i have began to get very worried. My GP refered me to a hemotoligist i have been seeing on now since january 2008. I had to have a bone marrow biopsy i then had to go back for my results three weeks latter they dignosed me with a myeloproliferative disorder. My type is thrombocythaemia and i only just found that out today. I have been back and fourth to my dotor surgery all week as i have been very worried it was a slow growing cancer. The docors kept on telling me the same thing other and other again. Saying that they can not say it aint cancer but they can not say it is caner. I am only a teen and was not get much sleep through this. I went to see a GP today and he did not know much on the subject as he is not a specilist in this area.He did however print me off a letter that my hemotologist sent to my GP. This letter contaned the information saying that my type of myeloproliferative disorder is thrombocythaemia despit the fact that my jak2 is negative. The GP told me that means it aint cancer he said there is a chance i could get it but it is very unlikly. I am back at hospital on monday. However it would be good of you if you could tell me any thing else. How will it effect me how will i be when i start having to inject interferon. i have been ill and spent last friday in hospitsal. i am very unsure about the effects off this disorder. i am not sure on what will happen to me. My Gp has given me a sick note for 8 weeks of college. I have been to the doctors at least 8 times in just over a week trying to get more information but i just get told the same thing. plase could you be a great help and help me understand more thank you jadey91

Hi Jadey,
I'm afraid I don't know much about your diagnosis, but I can share a few things with you. I have two blood disorders - both fairly uncommon (ITP and AIHA). The hemas rarely have definitive answers for me, so it is always on my shoulders to find out the answers for myself.

For you, if they say it isn't cancer and is unlikely that it will develop into it, then you should trust them.

What you have to do is make sure you find a dr who will listen to you - and whatever symptoms you have. It's going to be up to you to manage this condition, and it is always overwhelming in the beginning, but most of the time, once you get into a routine, get used to the symptoms and the medicines, your life will return to normal.

Try not to be afraid, and make sure the drs know how much anxiety you have.

IT will get better.
Jill

hi
thank you
i just just been feeling so confused and lost because they was not telling me anything. they kept telling me they couldnot say if it was cancer or not. now i know it aint and i do feel better but i just dont really know what to expect from this disorder. every time i go to the doctors they dont no what it is beacuse myeloproliferative disorder is very rea. it is usally know in people in the ages of late 40's usally 50's and 60's but with me only being a teen it hit me hard. i keep asking me where i go it from but know ansew. i also looked up on the internet and it said it can be parst on to my children. i dont think i will be having children now i know that. because with this disorder a lot of it is cancers but they aint cancers you get other. so i just have ted on wha o play the waiting game. when my platelets exced 1500 then i will be starting interferon so it will be good to get it all started and done out the way with so i know what to expect. a Gp has given me 8 weeks sick of college so he must think i need it with treatment. on my let it does say that me and my mum will have to sit with one of there nurse specilists so we can get to now more about my disorder. thank you for your help
i am at hospital on monday and i will keep you post on what they say i e havhowever i do no my plateltes whent up by 40 in 4 days. all i know is they are going up rapidllie but i think i have pussled the doctors. take care and thank you jade
