View Full Version : Health Anxiety and CBC's

Hi all!

I have health anxiety and have frequently had a CBC done - I know the normal range for WBC is between 3 and 10 or 11 - I have also been told as long as it's within the normal range it's nothing to worry about . . . . . . . . .

I had it done in December and my WBC was 6.3 and yesterday it was 6.9 - I did have a cold last week and have been at the very tail end of it this week - I don't know if that would explain the increase? (6.9 is the highest I've seen it - ???)

Any thoughts would be great!

Hi Supermom,
WBC counts can fluctuate in a day, so I don't think there's any significant difference between 6.3 and 6.9. If you had another CBC that day, it might be 6.3 again. My platelets can fluctuate a great deal over a few days.

But yes, a rise in your WBC would happen if you had an infection. 6.9 is a great count, though!:)
When I had a sinus infection my WBC count went from the usual (for me) 4.5 to 10.9! It went right down though after the sinus infection cleared, no problem.

Thanks, Jill!

I tend to obsess over that sort of thing because my mom died from leukemia in October of 2005. I've been in therapy and on Effexor for my health anxiety, but I am not feeling therapy is working for this type of anxiety so I am exploring the area of hypnotherapy in May.

Take care!

Well, Supermom, that explains it.

It makes perfect sense that you'd have lots of anxiety about this. Have you asked your dr about leukemia and having a higher risk because your mom had it? It might help to get some input. Sometimes knowing the facts can help.

I do understand why you'd worry. Try to find a dr who understands, too. But your counts look good. I believe with leukemia, the wbc goes very very high, but I could be wrong. You probably know having been through it with your mom.

I hope you get some relief.

Jill
