I have fibromyalgia, have survived early detection breast cancer, had a hysterectomy, have c6 stenosis, high cholesterol and high sugar but not diabetic. I take as few meds as I can. I recently started the Rave plant food diet - vegan/macrobiotic. I exercise some - walk. I drink water. I wasn't having symptoms, just going in for yearly exam. I started the Rave diet a month ago as I hadn't been taking as good of care of myself as I should. The diet brought down my chol. and sugar. Great. But, my doctor said that my potassium was high - not very high but enough to redo the tests. I will do so tomorrow. The automated voice mail says, your doctor will contact you if it is considered a serious possibility. sigh. Not a good thing to tell someone who thinks catastrophically about health. I am my mother's daughter. One of the areas I see this may point to is Addison's. One of my kidney tests came back normal. It is unusual to him so I will retest kidney/adrenals. My question: Can high potassium point to something not serious or should I brace myself?

Usually potassium rises in conjuction with a drop in sodium with Addison's. I know that myself and a few others, we actually drop both. I looked up the Rave diet and it is no salt - which is really bad for someone who has addison's as they cannot hold on to salt and need a high salt diet. Low salt is normal for everyone else but someone with Addison's cannot really do well on that.
So all I can say is that on no salt, is your sodium ok?
Was ACTH or cortisol tested?
I don't know of other issues that cause a rise in potassium but I hope that you are ok... seems like you have been through the wringer.
