I've been very sick for the psat two weeks with a cough which I thought might have turned into a flu about one week in, my coughing and congestion faded away but I was left feeling very weak and constantly nausious. My stooles have become black and have no reliable texture (some are firm, soft, liquid :S But all a very scary black color, and it burns quite a bit every time I defecate. I seem to have a constant slight fever and migranes as well. I thought the black stools would pass but they have not and doing online research leads me to intestinal or colonal cancer and peptic or bleeding ulcers.

Are there any (smaller) deseises which have symptoms like this? I dont have a day off for a long time now and dont want to go to the hospital for nothing.

Leave your stool in the toilet for a while, and see if blood pools around it.
If so, you had better go to the doctor and check it out.

Unless you are taking iron suppliments, black stools should be treated very seriously and not wanting to take a day off should be the last thing on your mind.

Black stool normally indicates bleeding from either the stomach or from the small intestine. The fact that you are tired all the time indicates you have severe anemia, which is due to bloodloss.

Now before you get worried about cancer, unless you are over the age of 60 it is very unlikely to be cancer. It could be a ulcer, but it could also be Gastritis. It can be 1001 non serious conditions, but it is unlikely to be something that will just go away on its own.

Get to the doctors!

Hey hun. I just wanted to say although I don't know of any lesser diseases that might make you have black stool but I must say going to the hospital for a sprained ankle is going for nothing. Going for something like that is not for nothing. Your health is not to be overlooked. I suggest you go as soon as you can. :) good luck and hod bless

if you don't want to go to the ER, at least make a trip to urgent care ... if they really are black stools, melena(black stools) are not to be taken lightly ..

iron/pepto can cause 'em, but they are usually sign of an upper gastrointestinal bleed(high up like esophagus(food pipe)/stomach/small intestine ... gastritis/bleeding ulcer/varices(enlarged veins)/arteriovascular malformations/inflammatory changes(like IBD)/and yes cancer can black stools .. by the way have you been using a lot of aspirin or NSAIDs(ibuprofen/aleve and the likes) as these meds can also cause upper GI bleeds

and if you've been passing large quantities, it is possible that you are anemic

how this relates to your illness, can't be entirely sure, infectious process can do it but they tend to cause bright red blood per rectum(blood would be seen in the bowel) .. and how this relates to your painful bowel movements, heck my best guess is that you've been having enough bowel movements that you've caused superficial irritation of the anus, but you should be checked out

best of luck, and heck, take some time out for yourself
