OH my god...this has been horrible for me. Around 2-3 years ago i developed this sticky icky feeling in the back of my nose and the mucus drips down to my throat. I never really thought anything of it until i started to get this weird odor coming out of my nose when i breathe.

I asked my brother if i had bad breath and he replied that it smelled like poop :(. I went to an ENT 2 -3 weeks ago and she gave me "anti-histamines" and "anti-luekotrines" and none of it seems to be working. I've used a netti-pot to clean my sinuses and that doesn't seem to work either. I am sick of this problem...it is really embarrassing and it's really bringing me down. The ENT said i might have allergies but ASDJLFNslndsfaldsfaAFUAS.

I am Indian and i do eat some spicy foods, do you think that may be the cause of my post nasal drip? I really need some help guys, i want to discuss a range of options with my ENT next time i see her, but anything to help/give me an idea of whats going would be amazing.

:(

There's a chance that it could be your diet, not necessarily the spicy foods but things like garlic, in excessive amounts, can affect your breath although if it was garlic your breath would smell more like garlic.

It's probably more likely that the bad breath is connected to the post-nasal drip.

Using the neti pot, the anti-histamines and anti-leukotrienes is a good start so keep that up, at least until your next visit to the doctor.

The other thing you should definitely consider is acid reflux. Post-nasal drip is a common symptom of acid reflux and bad breath can be a secondary symptom of acid reflux as well - you could try PrilosecOTC for a couple of weeks to see if you see any improvement in your symptoms - it typically only takes a day or two for things to start to improve if the PND is due to acid reflux.

thank you for the reply. I know I don't have acid reflux but i'll try the prilosec OTC stuff out. The postnasal drip is always bad whenever i wake up in the morning. I take the anti-histamines and anti-leukotrines during the night and when i wake up in the morning, my nose is really dry in the back but mucus is still dripping somewhat.

I brush and use the nettipot but to no prevail :(

The smell seems to still be there and it comes out of my nose also, and one of my nostrils is always closed. Any suggestions on what i can do differently (using the nettipot, brushing, eating etc.) would be appreciated.

Thanks

you have the same symptoms as I have in the uk and similar time scale of 3years. Also I have seen 3 consultants without success. One said nothing could be done, the second I have reduced airways which is aged related, and the third that I consider an operation to staighten my nose. The third option
would help my breathing but no guarantee to cure the nasal drip.

Will keep posting a view in the hope someone else is suffering like us.

All the best Robin
