I've had migraines before, but never with an aura. I'm almost 30, and I always thought auras would usually start happening when you were much younger.
I was in the drive-thru teller at the bank and they had not turned off their nightime security lights, I remember staring at them as I waited. After I left I started seeing a flashing light in the center of my visual field. I thought it was just an after image from from the security lights, but it started to expand, so I drove back home. The distortions were sort of a zig zag pattern and I could still see them if I closed my eyes. This lasted about 10 minutes, then my central vision returned to normal and then zig zags gradually disappeared from my peripheral vision.
I did a search and it sounds like I had a "scintillating scotoma".
I was a bit nervous so I had someone drive me to the eye doctor right away. I had a headache for about 30 mins afterward, which was gone by the time I got to the doctor. She did a full eye exam and dilated my eyes, she said everything looked fine. I felt nauseous for a couple hours afterward, but I think this might have been caused by the dilation.
Also I told my dad about this and he said the same thing used to happen to him every couple of months since he was a teenager. I remember him talking about it before, but I had no idea what he was describing until now.

That is almost the exact same aura that my dad gets before a migraine hits him. When he gets them he also feels nauseous, so don't be to nervous about what happened.
The first time I got an aura I was pretty freaked out- It was like the after picture from an optical illusion, but only in my peripheral vision. It lasted for about an hour and 20 minutes, but my headache didn't get any worse.
Hope this helps
