Does anyone take Evista for Osteoporosis? My doctor is trying to talk me into taking Evista and the Climara Patch since I can't take bisphosphates.
Thanks!

Yes, I'm 63, and have been on Evista for about 7 months beks of osteoporosis in forearm and one hip. I was reluctant to take any biphosphonates. No serious side fx that I can identify, but unfortunately also an 8 lb. weight gain which I believe is due to the hormone.

My doctor told me about Evista. I am one of those people who experienced severe bone pain due to one (1) Boniva. I then tried Fosamax unsuccessfully. Since I do not have osteoporosis, but rather osteopenia, my doctor said to wait until my next DEXA results and if need be, would strongly recommend that I try Evista.
I am anxious to hear what others post on this medication. Thanks for bringing up the subject.

I was too afraid to take it because of the risks and I am not active enough to counteract the possibility of a stroke risk as I had a back injury and just had back surgery. I had tried Actonal but had to stop so I have been using Fortical nasal spray for the last year. It isn't the first choice of drug, but it is better than nothing and I don't have problems using it

I've been taking Evista for about three years, since age 49. Was maintaining bone density, then went through menopause. My most recent DXA showed more bone loss in the spine. I get hot flashes occasionally, but they aren't too bad. Nothing that keeps me awake anyway. But I know some women get them bad on Evista. I'm taking Boniva now also. Two months into it and no problems so far. (Knocking wood.)
