Can someone tell me how to stop Lexapro? I am taking 5 mg. and am trying to lose weight caused by Paxil, previous to taking Lexapro. I am managing my anxiety with benzos because it is the one drug that works. I have tried to stop the Lexapro, cold turkey, taking half the dose and every time I have tried, on about the third day I get REALLY panicky and start back taking it. I don't feel I can EVEN discuss this with my doctor because they all think alike and will tell me SSRI's are the best thing. I know I can not lose this weight until I get off the Lexapro. Someone please help! Thank you.

If you are only on 5mg, you should have no problem getting off of it, that is a very low dosage for Lexapro... I was on 20mg and my doctor said I could quit "cold turkey" without any side effects... and I had none when I stopped. Your panic when you don't take it could possibly be self induced... you're afraid as to what will happen by not being on it.

Talk to your doctor though.

You sound like me luvdog, I was on paxil for a year gained way too much weight started lexapro a month ago and decided enough was enough, I would take it everyother day for about 2 weeks, I had withdrawls but got through them, I have xanax just in case. try that.;)
