My doc started me on Seroquel for Depressive phases of Bipolar, I'm at 300mg and have been taking it since 4-10-08. I started with the starter pack and was up to 300mg by the fourth day. When do you feel the significant desired effect? I have serious daytime tiredness and sleepiness but the moods are better, I was hoping for better depression effect. Thanks!

You're still on a relatively low dosage...you can go up to 800mg for a normal adult dosage according to my pdoc. I just got raised to 450 yesterday, but also taek zoloft, topomax, and started on lamictal. The seroquel has been very helpful for moods and irritation, but the depression seems to get bad each time I get used to a higher dosage. So maybe you need to talk to your pdoc about adding something to help with the depression I guess it just depends on how bad your depression is, maybe you just need a higher dose? Just a thought. I've been taking the Seroquel since the end of December. I have BPII with Severe BP Suicidal Depression.

Generally they say to give at least a full month (once at a therapuetic dose of course) to see if a med is working or not.
Kmit is right too. You may need a higher dose or another med added if the seroquel isn't cutting it. I do know that seroquel is approved for bp depression so I hope that it starts working for you soon.

Toco,
How are you doing on your Seroquel? Has it gotten any better?

same situation going on here. 300mg couldn't handle the grogginess so started halfing it till doc visit Wednesday. Not doing good as far as depression feelings. What is good to add with it though when you are already too groggy to get out of bed???

I'm at 300mg at night to help me sleep. I can't take it in the daytime because of the grogginess (sp?) and I need to be mentally alert. I've been on Seroquel for a year and alone it wasn't enough. I started Lamictal this January. The Seroquel took a few months to kick in for me - I was in a mixed state from taking SSRIs for the upteenth time. The Seroquel snapped me out of that and helped a lot of my symptoms.

Geez man, I really feel for you, your on the never ending dr. cycle from Hell. I go through that kind of thing with my docs. Currently I'm under the care of a Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Orthopaedic Surgeon, Urologist, Pain Management Specialist, and GP...sometimes they can get their DX's crossed up a bit. I've had the BP for 17 years though, so I can usually tell what's going on with that, thank goodness. I hope you get your meds straightened out soon. Keep posting and let us know how you're doing, kay.

As my dosage goes up on any medication, the side effects always increase a lot and the desired effect increases a little. My sleep disorders make everything worse, if I have insomnia, the sleep deprivation makes my depression worse and if I do sleep, I have apnea's that prevent any deep sleep, so no good rejuvenating sleep. And of course all of my depression medications add to my daytime tiredness. I'm mostly convinced there isn't a medication that will significantly help my complex health problems. Now that is depressing! Thanks for the information everyone.
