View Full Version : More headaches...Need Help!

I have getting severe headaches for the past week. I am taking a new medication, synthroid, for hypothyroidism and thought that maybe it was from this. I have gotten headaches for years, some worse than others. And yes, I get them EVERY day. Not having a headache is a good day for me, regardless of the actual day's events.
I was taking Topomax before getting pregnant with my daughter and this helped tremendously. I felt great! I cannot get into my neurologist until mid-May and fear that I am going to really lose it. He will not write a prescription until he sees me. I cannot stand the everyday pain anymore. I take medication EVERY day. I know it's probably a rebound effect too, but it just hurts too much.
I am a school teacher and feel as though I am not doing the best that I can be - tired and headaches.
I usually get the headaches directly after lunch. I can set my watch by them. It's a gradual build-up. I don't eat the same thing everyday, but I think it may be something in the food. I'm SO confused! I'm SO frustrated! I cry about it. I don't eat breakfast for fear that I'll get a headache sooner rather than later. I feel like I'm going crazy!
Any thoughts?

Have you called the drs office that prescribed the thyroid med? It is a hormone and i would think it could directly effect your headaches.

Are you able to go to a chiropractor or get a massage?

The only other thing i can think of (might not be easy being a teacher) is eat more smaller meals and see if it alleviates the pain at all. Even if it is a piece of string cheese or apple.

good luck!

Maybe it is a headache from going off Topamax. My son has been much worse since going off Topamax 2 months ago. I thought he wasn't doing any better and he was having side effects, but nothing was ever as bad as things are now. He has never had a 2 month long migraine. It was right after stopping the Topamax that they started up more and lasted longer. My other son tried to go off it recently and titrated down to 25 mg for about 2 weeks, then he stopped it and by the second day he had a horrible migraine and then the same thing the second day. He went back on the 25 mg and is doing okay and decided that living with the side effects was better than living with the migraine. I'm going to ask his doctor about starting Topamax again.

Thank you both for your replies. I was able to get samples of the Topamax from my family doctor and my neurologist eventually did phone me out a prescription. The very first day I took 25 mg. I swear my head was swimming! I was in such a fog! A fog that I had never experienced before having the baby while being on this medication. However, I did not get a headache. I took 25 mg again that night and woke up feeling GREAT!!! No side effects and NO headache!!! I'm sticking with it. Topamax has always been my life safer. I swear by it. After suffering for 19 years with migraines (since I was 5), it's a miracle drug in my eyes. AND I have a neurologist who listens, which is a rarity to me...

Pam44 ~ It's sad that your boys would experience that while trying to wean off this drug. Have they tried any of the alternative drugs for migraine prevention? I think one is called depakote or something like that? There aren't the strange side effects that Topamax sometimes gives people. I feel for them...I really do. No one needs to suffer like this. I am actually thinking of going to an all raw diet just to re-vamp my diet! Thank you for the reply and good luck with your boys.
