Hi, I have been suffering from this symptom for a year now. I have pain and pressure across top of my gum and around the base of my nose. The pain also travels to the bridge of my nose and into my cheeks and is crushing and dull in nature. I have had a sinus x-ray which was normal and the facio-maxillary doc has felt around my tmj for tenderness and pain , there was none

I am wondering whether this is a sinus prob or tmj. I dont have any nasal congestion although I do sneeze alot with what I think are allergies. Nasal sprays and washes dont seem to help the pain. I am more inclined to think it is tmj related as just before these symptoms occured a year ago I had a few days of swelling around my tmj joints. I went to the doc but they didn't seem to think there was anything wrong, however I noticed the swelling.

I am desperate to find out what is wrong and get some treatment. I have an appointment with ENT. Pain killers dont really help and it it ruining my life.

I will be grateful for any advice or similar experiences.

Thanks

Ugh - when my tmj started - first my neck started to hurt, became stiff and cracked with every move and then I got what you describe - pain across my upper gum directly in front of the nose and my whole nose hurt as well as underneath it and radiated into the cheek bones and more. I was told it was due to cranial shifting of the sphenoid bone located under the nose in the upper palate. Are there any cranial chiros or kinesiologists in the UK?

Thanks for your reply. I presume there are cranial osteopaths and kinesiologists in the uk. However I dont know how expensive they will be to see. I will do some research.

It sounds as though that could be my problem....did treatment by these guys help?..I hope it did and what self help measures did you find helpful?

The chiro I see now is my 3rd one and he is a kinesiologist and I have seen more improvment with him than other chiros - but he was hard to find - but then again I didn't know who to look for - I thought all chiros were the same. I have been with him almost 9 months but when I look back to when I first started with him last year to now I can see the improvement although its been slow going. Basically nothing I did at home helped and neither did standard splint therapy - it was my current tmj dentist (the 4th I have been treated by) that said my cranium and c-spine was torqued and until I got that straightened out nothing dental would help so he insisted I see this "cranial" chiro and hold off on any further attempts to correct and balance my bite.
