Basically for 2-3 years I've had this persistant cough(worse in the morning) along with SOB and stuffy nose.
To cut a long story short my chest physician told me that PND is the cause but the ENT more or less shrugged and said it wasn't ,but after my GP refered me to a top specialist HE insisted it WAS mty sinuses so the ENT did a quick exam with a long telescope down my nose and found I had a bad infection in my nose and perscribed me 6 wks of antibiotics.
I am also allergic to sulphites which causes my lungs to tighten up.I avoid these altogether.
My question is this.
Can PND cause me to have shortness of breath and cough SO much I start gagging.
And if so what medication, remedies or processes can I use to get rid of it.I'm on sprays etc (have been for months and months) but nothing seems to work.
I've heard that gargling with liquid anteseptic helps.
I would appreciate some input.
PS If you need to see my full history look at my other posts.THANKS;)

do you take any mucionex? the guafenisin helps thin the mucous. Have you ever irrigated your sinuses? It has helped me. I sent a neti pot to my friend in Florida and she has had less issues with her morning gagging/coughing.

thanks for your reply

I've never heard of mucionex.I'll ask my GP about that and see if its available in the uk.
I HAVE irrigated my sinuses but not very much as I didn't think something so simple could have such an impact (sounds stupid I know).
I will do now.How long before you saw an improvement?

I would try the muccinox as suggested....It will "thin" out your mucus....Also, drinks lots of water...it will help lubricate your whole body.

Also, all of your symptoms are probably related....Allergies. The PND is the result of allergies and the cough is from the PND. Stop the PND, and you will probably stop the cough. The shortness of breath and wheezing is a mild form of asthma....Also caused by allergies....dust, grasses, mold & etc. You probably need an inhaler and some type of preventive med....I use singular, which helps a lot.

Sounds like you need a work up at an allergist. I would go try to make an appt right away because most good allergists are back logged and can take a while to see. Your GP can also script these meds in the mean time. They can even handle your allergies overall if you'd like. An allergist, however, will conduct tests to determine exactly what you're allergic to.

Please be careful with the chest symptoms....Shortness of breath & etc.....Asthma is the silent killer....When asthmatics show visible symptoms, their breathing is 40-50% obstructed, and that's why the symptoms show up. Even when they are "fine", they have about 15% blockage or so....And as a result, they get tired a lot....The lungs and heart are working over time! An inhaler solves all these problems as needed. The Singular will work as a preventative and works great.....Best of all, there are NO side effects.

Hope this helps.

The singulair is what I've been on for about ayear now but there's still no improvement.I've been on seretide and I'm on symbicort now for 2 months but no real improvement.I agree that allergy testing is the way forward.I have been tested for pollen however and this proved positive but my symptoms are throughout the year although I did suffer with hayfever before I started with the PND.
One thing I must point out too is that when all this started I had stuffed sinuses blowing out a lot of thick mucus and at the EXACT same time I started with a chest infection and SOB and for this I was given prednisolone which, along with antibiotics, cleared it all up but once the effects had worn off the PND and the cough followed by chest infection would be back in a month,so I've been taking these steroids about 20+ times over the last 2-3 years. So I WOULD agree that if I can eliminate the PND my problems SHOULD be over.I take antihistamines but I can't seem to find one what works.
Any ideas???

I'm wondering if you don't have some type of infection and a long cycle (3+weeks) of antibiotics is in order? You'd be surprised at what type of "super bugs" there are out there these days.

Some type of comprehensive allergy testing is really needed....And quick.

Good luck.
