Hi. I am 47 and have been the most horrible person the last few weeks. I can snap or cry at anything. I am so tired that at 3.30 when I finish work I have to get into bed and then when I get up at 6 I am ratty. It is totally out of character for me and I don't like it. I feel like I have an alien in my body and I cannot control it. I also have high blood pressure so not sure if anything to do with it. Also under the hosp for very painful and heavy periods. I have been telling the doc that I am tired though now for the past 3 years and he said my blood tests are all ok. I have been taking Q10 for past year and not helped much. I even took myself off the bp tablets as I thought it was them. I wake up every morning at 5.00am on the dot and when I wake it feels like I have been running a marathon my heart is pounding so much. I feel like I can't tell my doc all this as he must think I am a hypocondriac. I have been seeing a nutrionist, privately for past 3 weeks. Go back for re-test this friday so lets see what happens. I would appreciate some advice or feeback as my partner does not know what to do with me.

Your symptoms sound very much like peri-menopause. Unfortunately, peri (the early stages of meno) is hard to diagnose through blood work, but can be verified by symptoms usually. I also have just been diagnosed with high blood pressure. I would recommend that you go back on the medication, because high BP can cause you to have a stroke and also can cause permanant kidney damage if it goes untreated.

The heart pounding and racing is also a very common symptom. If you read through this board, you will see several threads regarding this very topic.

Have you been to a OB/GYN? Or just a GP? Most OB/GYN's can spot these symptoms right away and I'm sure they would never think you were a hypochondriac. There are lots of different things you can do to help with the on-going symptoms. Again, this board is a very good resource for that.

Best of luck and be very careful about that BP. It is a very dangerous thing.
