Okay, so i am not sure if i have bipolar disorder or not. I know in the last month I have been have the most erratic mood swings ever. I know i am not pregnant, so that is out. One day I am happy and in a great mood, but the next day I am so sad and just feeling so blue. This has been happeing for a month so far.....

Yesterday I was so depressed I left work early cause I couldnt stop the tears from flowing. But then today I am in a great mood and got so much done at work. But at the same time I can feel a little sadness in the pit of my stomach.

When I have been feeling blue i talk to my boyfriend about it and when nothing he says is making it right, I get so angry with him that i want to hit him, but instead of hitting him, I hit myself and hurt myself.....nothing extreme like cutting or anything of that nature, but i have smacked myself in the face and took a remote control and smacked it into my head so hard that i broke it.

If anyone can help me or tell me anything, It would be recieved with a huge thank you!

Amy, Hi and welcome to our little board world. Sounds like you would definitely benefit from a visit to a psychiatrist or psychologist. They're really the only ones who could tell you for sure what's going on. If you can't find one you could go to your general practioner for a reference. Good luck to you.

Hello,

You could have bp, or it could be something else. Hormonal? Or another psychiatric problem.

You definately need to make an appointment to see a proffesional who can diagnose you. Be completely honest with that person. I think it's important that you do this right way, before things get out of control.

Please call for an appointment tomorrow and keep us posted as to what happens.

Best,
Seaturtle

First of all it would be very helpful for you to read the sticky post at the top of this forum (The bipolar symptoms primer) to find out the symptoms of bipolar disorder. Of course no one can here can tell you whether or not you have bipolar disorder. Only a trained psychiatrist can do this. You should first have physical causes ruled out (like thyroid problems). Then a psychiatrist will take a detailed account of all of your symptoms including a family history (as this illness can be very genetic).

Anyways, I've talked enough. The important thing is to see a psychiatrist if you are still concerned.

I agree with Llama - best to have a psychiatrist assess your symptoms if you are concerned, because worrying too much can bring on more stress and therefore more wonderful symptoms!

Bipolar Disorder is just one disorder which involves mood instability. People with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), for example, do experience mood-swings. My Mum has that and she definitely struggles with mood swings. Mum thought I had BPD too, until my manias made themselves known as obvious manias and a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder was confirmed.

If you don't have Bipolar Disorder, your psychiatrist may still prescribe mood-stabilisers to ease your symptoms if you have BPD or another mood disorder.

Good luck, and don't be afraid to seek help from the doctors!
