I don't know if my son is some kind of freak or what;)... but I need some advice. My 15 month old son has started gagging himself. We noticed it last week and just figured he found a new sensation and for some reason kept doing it. Well, over the weekend we were in the car and I turned to talk to him (I wasn't driving) and noticed he had vomitted. Kinda a mucousy dark red (he had been drinking cherry juice) mess. I thought he might be sick but he was still in a good mood and laughing. Later on, we were driving home and as I turned to look at him he was gagging himself and threw up. I was shocked!! What kid gags himself enough to make himself puke?! Then again today he was gagging himself in the car. It seems like he only does it in the car. Any advice on how I can stop this? Does anyone else have a weirdo child? :)

MY 14 month old also went through a phase, where he was gagging himself. He never threw up but constantly had his fingers all the way down his throat!! But, I noticed he hasn't been doing it lately.
So, it must have been a phase.

This is so weird. I caught my ten month old daughter doing this the other day! She did end up throwing up and then as soon as she did, she started laughing!!!! I am just staring at her thinking what the h**l was that all about. She tried to do it a few more times after that but I wouldn't let her put her fingers in her mouth. She hasn't done it since to my knowledge and I am with her most of the day. My husband and I were just wondering why a baby would do that???

my 16 month old does that...she does it and laughs at the same time. Its weird but when we see her do it we make her stop by pulling her hand away from her face.

Ok, so Aden had his 15 month check a few weeks ago and I asked his dr about it. She wasn't too concerned. She said that some kids will gag themselves in the car to make themselves throw up 'cause they are getting carsick or because they have bad eye sight and it makes them feel sick. Turns out my son is just a little weirdo. :) Glad to hear he's not the only one. His dr said to just stop the behavior when we see him do it and he'll eventually stop. Thanks for the replies!

Tiff,
I guess my little girl is a weirdo too then. She wasn't even in the car when she did it, so that makes her extra weird! That's ok, I still love her, weirdness and all! I am glad your doctor wasn't concerened! :)

Delia, he's actually done it a few times since we asked his dr and he wasn't in the car either. It's weird how we find gagging so horrible but kids like it 'cause it's a new sensation. Kids are weird! My brother tells me all the time that "Aden is so weird". I just tell him that weird is interesting and fun!!
