I'm 53, been menopausal for a little over a year now. What came with this life changing process is some nasty smell around the vagina. Douching does not help. Few hours after taking a shower (3) and I wipe there is always dirt-- brownish black. Is this normal? Now I carry baby wipes with me and wipe every hour, but the odor still persists. What can I use to get rid of the odor?

There is no such thing as a menopause with a smell in fact there should not be any obnoxious smell coming from there. You need to go to the doctor because it is for sure you have an vaginal infection of some sort going on and need special medication...nothing you do at home is going to cure it until you find out what type of infection you have and doctor can help you identify it.

Joycetunde, I am sorry to hear you are having such a problem. It doesn't sound like a menopause issue to me. I would talk with your Dr and find out what might be going on. Don't let it go longer because it might just be a easy fix. You are in my prayers. Take care,
Julie:)

Are you sure what you are seeing is "dirt"? Could it possibly be feces that were not wiped completely? I would think any amount of feces left in that area would cause a noticable smell. "Dirt" in/or near a vagina is not normal. So the only thing I could think of would be feces.
You should call your doctor to have a pap-smear/infection check done. BV can give off a very foul odor, along with symptoms mimicing a yeast infection. I would call the md asap. A year is too long to suffer from any type of vaginal odor or infection.

I wish you luck,
Angela

Definately get to your Dr. Any discharge that has a bad odour and discoloured needs attention. Could you have something lodged up there? Seriously! Happened to me years ago and I did have those kind of symptoms Good luck!!!!!

Everyone is right; go see a doctor right away. May be something as simple as a "lost" tampon or something a little more serious. You should not smell anything obnoxious!
