Hello,
My sister has had Hepatitis c for nearly 20 years now. She has never had treatment. She had her enzymes tested a couple weeks ago, they were somewhat high but not real bad. The Dr. did further testing and my sister only knew the numbers they gave her not the actual test it was. The number was 7.1. About 8 years ago she said it was 1.6. Could this be that viral load test people talk about? Does anyone know how bad the 7.1 number is if it is the viral load test? She has lost so much weight and fast. I am really getting worried. Any helpful responses will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

I Doubt It. She Needs To Call The Drs Office And Ask Them What The Test Was!!

Was there any code with this number?
IF it is the viral load count, it would mean that it was 1.6 millions 8 years ago and that now it would be 7.1 millions.
But I wish I knew if there was somekind of code to be sure if he was talking about the vl.
Next time she sees her doctor, or better yet, call in and ask the nurse to ask him what it means.
Good luck
A viral load of 7.1 is high, but I've seen people with 77 millions, so it's not too bad, but what really counts here is how high her enzymes are, and what the biopsy revealed, what kind of damage to her liver she has, did she get a biopsy done yet.
If not, she should asap.
Also no alcohol whatsoever, there is a reason why her viral load if it's that, has gotten soo high.
Good luck to your sister... Mckenzie

Hi I can only tell you what I have learned since they told me I had hepatitis c. Went through several doctors before getting educated about it. It sounds like her viral load but so much more to it. Did she ever get a liver biospy? Was she ever told what her geno type was. I remember a very wise lady who gave me a list of questions to ask my doctor when I saw him. Only then did I know just what was going on. Please see to it that your sister asks as many questions and takes control. If not happy find another doctor who will put her at ease. Please let me know what happens.

Hello I have to agree with other comments: It is important for her to discuss this with her doctor or in my case I've found my nurse is my access to information. I've also found it is very helpful to request a copy of all test results for personal understanding and future reference.
I agree that a bioposy is absobultely necessary - it is the only way to determine the level of damage that her liver has sustained.
Your sister sounds like a very blessed women to have you on her side as supporter and advocate.
