Hi,

My mother was just prescribed topamax for severe migraines that she has been having for about 1 year now. I was wondering if anyone here is taking it. I know that she is worried about taking because she has not heard good things about it. I just wanted to know from people who have actually taken it if it has worked from them. I know it works for each individual is different but i really would help to know if it really does work for people.

Thanks!

Topamax has been the ONLY thing that has ever worked in preventing my daily headaches. I highly recommend this drug. I did experience some initial dizziness at first, but it did go away as my body adjusted. Make sure your mother starts slowly, like 25 mg and she takes it before going to bed because it may make her tired. It can take up to two months before she sees benefits also, but I would say definitely go for it!

My daughter has been on topamax for a few months and it has made a huge difference in the quality of her daily life. There were some initial side effects, but they disappeared as her body adjusted to the medication. She also had severe migraines daily and they have nearly vanished. Hopefully, your mother will have a good experience also.

I have been on Topamax for over 3 years now. It is working very well for me. I use to have 5+ migraines a week and now I have approx. 1 or 2 a week sometimes less. I still have some migraines that reach status migranious but all in all its much better. The side effects of Topamax in the beginning were not fun but once my body adjusted it was fine and the benefits far outweighted the side effects.

I have been on it for around 4 months and although it has never fully taken my headaches away, it sure has made them less intense and now I am able to get to school almost all the time. Once you are adjusted to it, there are virtually no side effects, the only one I have experienced is weight loss (about 6 lbs.)

Good Luck!

I took it for 2 years and it worked great for my migraines. After so long on it, it started to make my food taste metalic, like I was eating a piece of lead. They have to check your body regularly for this, but I don't recall being tested for it, and sometimes you have to cycle off of it. I liked it, but my feet and legs started developing numbness and burning, so I had to get off of it. But, for 2 years, I was very pleased with the effect it had on migraine. Good luck. Hopefully you won't develop any side-effects.

I have been on topamax 50mg and love it. I forgot to take it for 3 days and I have been suffering for the past 3 days. I have had 3 horrible migraines. I thankfully have Imitrex but when I consistantly took the topamax(last 4 months) I had no migraines then when I forgot even a couple they came back strong.
