Have you checked the great tmj dr sticky post?

I am seeing a Dr David Lerner in Yorktown Heights, NY - he helped another member here but I have a complicated case and had to stop treatment with him for several months while I underwent some cranial adjustments with a chiro - so I have no proof that he is good other than the other member's referral although he is very knowledgeable about tmj and its symptoms and has a tomogram and is trained in FJO.

There are several well know specialists in Manhattan - I tried a few but unfortunately did not see any improvement - and I believe there are several on Long Island as well as a neuromuscular dentist up in Middletown, Orange County, NY.

There's also a Dr Friedman in Scarsdale - he is not a dentist but an MD who specializes in tmj and myofacial pain.

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate the names and locations.

For the past three nights I haven't slept with a pillow and am feeling a little better. I would like to get some help with this. It is just constant and it is hard to think of anything else.

What about the Cranial Sacral, have you tried that? If so, did it help? Do you know of anyone in our area who is good, I will go into NYC if I have to.

Thanks again.

I saw and responded to your other post on cranial sacral therapy.

There are many tmj dentists in Manhattan that I can give you the names of the thing is none of them really helped me so I am not comfortable in referring them but it doesn't mean they are not good - I'm not sure though if when they say I have a complicated case if its true or if they are just not really great tmj dentists - or some just want easy cases and some are just cosmetic dentists in disguise looking to take advantange of someone in pain. My bite is so messed up now due to treatment by other dentists that I wouldn't doubt now it will be impossible to get it back. But you can check out Dr Harold or Michael Gelb, Dr Barry Cooper (he was up front and told me could not help me), Dr Barry Rozenberg - I consulted with him for a 2nd opinion while I was being treated by Dr Jeffrey McClendon - who was OK but I think the splint he used with me caused more problems, Drs Bruce and Alex Greenberg - brothers - one deals with oral surgery and the other is an orthodontist and they share their offices but naturally they recommended jaw surgery yet other drs I consulted with did not. I also went to NYU's School of Dentistry but their tmj dept was booked 3 months in advance which I felt was too long to wait for a consult but I did go to their Pain Mgmt Dept for a few months. Columbia Dental School also has a tmj/myofacial pain dept. Thre are others too that I found on the net but then I started looking closer to home when I realized treatment would take a long time so I needed to find someone more local - although Yorktown Heights is a good 40 mins drive for me as well but at least I am not dealing with the GW bridge, traffic and parking problems.

Hope that helps some - finding the right dr has made dealing with this all so much more frustrating b/c most literature I have read indicates that most people recover when properly treated - since i haven't recovered I can only assume it means I have not been properly treated or have not found the right dr to do so.
